How serious do you guys take phasmophobia?
I see it as a 80% social game 20% about the hunts and scares.

I see many people here acting like you gotta grind to obtain some prestige in-game instead of the developer making it easier to enjoy the people there.

Almost nobody plays single player because the game is just made to be social.

But the grind of some players that think it's normal to a developer to insert a 15.000 level badge like the game is some sort of competitive ♥♥♥♥ is impressive.

Having said that: what is it for you all? what's the main reason you play?
scares? social? the "prestige" of showing people your level?
i feel like the developer doesn't know why we play it most of the times. feels like he's gotta do some research because it's not normal to make a 15k level thing.

I’m all over the place really. Sometimes serious, sometimes casual, sometimes both.

Its fun to play; I enjoy playing with my friends. It offers some unique gameplay that's different from other games we play together. But I'm a pretty casual gamer and that doesn't mean there aren't more competitive aspects. Some people like more challenge. Personally, I think the idea of nightmare mode is extreme and insanity is impossible. But they added insanity because people wanted a harder game mode.

So yea, I do think the devs have a pretty good idea of who is playing the game and what they want. Some things are much easier to add in than others, and that plays a factor in development as well. Harder game mode is pretty easy to do, especially when all the settings can be customized already. Sounds like they're working hard on a major update that will probably include a shop update to incorporate the new items, so that should help with a major pain point as well. A better tutorial would also help new players get into the game, and I'm willing to bet that will be coming with the updated items (when better to redo the tutorial than when all the "new player" items will be new to everyone?)

Honestly, including a badge for the top 1% of the playerbase isn't something that I have an issue with. That sort of cosmetic "pat on the back" is exactly what keeps people happy, costs basically nothing in terms of development time, and shows just how much the devs appreciate the players who do play the most. Making multiple threads about how insane it is just makes you look salty.

Because people like the game. Not sure why it's that big of a deal to have a award for the tops tier players. you could go ask anyone who plays a lot of one game why they play. Hilarious a trophy is that big of a deal to you that you want it so bad for prestige or something, then ask if that's why people play the game. Why do you care so much about trophies? bragging rights? completionist?
Baffling a trophy is this big of a deal to someone.

Also is a good game to meet random people and have some random weird and goofy conversations. Some people go places to meet people and be sociable, some people play games for that sociable time. Some play more than others. As you can see atleast 3k hours needed to get level 15,000

I'm a mix. I will play solo at times on streams for the scares, but for sure more fun multiplayer times with friends. I like getting the high levels for the fun of it, but nothing I'd hit a sweat generating grind over.

15k badge sounds more like it's for active players since the very beginning, not something for new or casual players to stress over. I do like the Holiday Challenges though! Finding those super large Easter eggs was a comical surprise on its own, and the cookies for the '22 holiday event was silly entertainment.

The current weekly challenges are good to do, and so are most dailies and regular weekly goals. It does have that nice little competitive kick. Even the one at the asylum is only one I try for just for skill testing and some luck reasons. Audience gets to see me die and I get reminded I am not ready yet. (✿◕ 𐤿◕)

For those who hit 15k and up legit, I support them getting something for it, because dayum, they are dedicated. For players like me, I'm fine with current stuff.

For changes, maybe making a better tutorial for the item shop and getting new players going on their hunts. It's hard to say more until the big update comes out.

Cheers to future hunts and scares!

Depends on the crew.
The only time I'm ever serious is with new players, or when people spread misinformation on how ghosts work.

i'm a completionist. I want the cumulative useless stuff for a casual game. Just trying to make the dev scratch the completionist itch inside everyone of us :(

Leon 0x1 Sarcasteik.

But dev, tune it down for the boys with 500 hours. I even got a job from a friend i met in phasmo. game is pretty good and i see no problem with everyone having the old level badges to customize our profile. let the "exclusive" customization stuff be in the new progression 2.0
not the old one, since most of the high level people cheated levels before the anti-cheat thing

so.. go "complete" more games on custom difficulty to get 15k? you've got likely another month or so. Level means nothing, and will always mean nothing.

I just have fun with it. Lately we've been playing random game customs that we've seen streamers doing (no evidence, Insym's photo roulette thing, and so on). As long as you're enjoying the game, nothing else really matters.

It's a social game to me. Sure, I do enjoy finding out the ghost type and completing objectives, but its mainly a fun social game to play with friends. wont forget that time the ghost kept coming for us for like 10 minutes straight if we dared open the laundry room door so we were basically trapped and had to hide behind the washing machines. 10/10 we love a persistent ghost queen/king.

Naah. Things like that keep me away from the game.
Not even the best RPG is worth 500 hours of my time like i did in phasmo.

i do a lot

did the math here
1800 levels x 20 minutes per match at 15x XP multiplier (the highest one)

I have to play 54 hours and get 100% of the ghosts right in a month to be able to get what i want. thats 2 hours a day of getting the ghost right at the highest (impossible) difficulty.

Too bad. I don't play for the grind. Rather let the game go for a while.

The game is hitting it's all time low.
12k consecutive players since the launch by looking at steam charts.
I dont think adding ULTRA competitive challenges is the way to go and retain players.
The slow updates and the super hard to get content will not hold the game.
The social aspect and the extra things to do is the biggest thing but i think the updates are so slow now.

Would be nice to have a way to see if a player got their level legit or not. People mod in single player or in private match and claim they clean.

The obake fingerprints might be cool because at 15k it will be pretty rare, but personally I think there is better symbols to pick. You only get to pick one thing, so you should pick what you think is cool, not just the highest.
