Game alone won't cause this unless hardware is on its way out. Sounds more like a MoBo or PSU issue. Unless you overclocking, which has its own issues.
Are you just getting a blue screen? If so there are ways to find exactly what driver is causing the issue. A BSOD does not mean damage to your system or card either
What kills a GPU?
Overheating, Power supply issues, Physical damage, Manufacturing defects, Overclocking ( to some extend)
Can you always make sure you don't have such issues?
While it's not always possible to completely eliminate the risk of these problems, there are steps you can take to minimize the likelihood of GPU failure.
Keep your computer and GPU clean, Ensure proper Airflow, Use a high-quality power supply, Avoid overclocking (if not comfortable), Monitor your GPU's temperature, Keep drives up to date (sometimes...)
Why do people use older / used GPU's and whats the problem they might come with?
People may use older or used GPUs for a variety of reasons, including cost savings, nostalgia, or compatibility with older systems or games. However, there are some potential problems that may come with using older or used GPUs.
For example, a game that is poorly optimized may put unnecessary strain on the GPU, causing it to overheat and potentially leading to damage or failure. Similarly, a game that is too demanding for the GPU may cause it to struggle to keep up, resulting in lower performance or even crashes. Of course, this is also a problem caused by outdated or incompatible drivers, which may not properly communicate with the GPU or provide the necessary optimizations and updates to handle newer games and software. It's important to keep GPU drivers up to date to ensure proper functionality and prevent potential issues with demanding or poorly optimized games.
Phasmophobia is not the only game that can potentially cause problems for GPUs. Any game that is poorly optimized or demanding can put strain on the GPU, particularly if it is an older or lower-end model. In addition, some games may have compatibility issues with certain GPUs or drivers, which can lead to performance issues or crashes.
I am warning people about Phasmophobia because while it is a fun and popular game, it still has significant issues that could lead to problems for some players. Despite regular updates, the player base experiencing crashing issues is growing, and if you have older or heavily used hardware, this could cause serious issues. I personally experienced these issues before, and it is important for players to be aware of these potential problems before playing the game.

There are many more :)
A few of those linked crashes are related to using Wemod, which again, is completely different than what you expressed is your issue. It honestly sounds like you are looking for an excuse to discourage new buyers by fear mongering with saying "this game can damage your computer."
Troubleshooting suggestions to try if you can drop your ego:
Under volting your GPU, Down clocking your GPU, trying different graphic settings, different cables, different Display Port slots, different power outlets, reseating your CPU, making sure the CPU cable is fully connected to your Motherboard, unparking cores, turning off c-states. I recently fixed a stuttering issue in the lobby by turning on and off V sync, which to me, is odd.
At this point I'd look for a screw under the motherboard. Had that once, kept causing shorts until I finally took everything to bits and found it.
What you experienced was not this game killing your hardware. It was your hardware reaching its EOL. Stop spreading fake news unless you have proof of your claims.
Posting a few Steam posts proves nothing but your lack of troubleshooting skills.
There are people who can help you fix your issues here.
Like I asked before, are you getting Blue screen when it crashes?
This is not a issue with hardware being damaged. This thread should be locked for spreading misinformation
