This Game can break your Hardware.
It is concerning to hear that Phasmophobia, a game verified on Steam, caused damage to my previous graphics card, endet up breaking it by shorting it. Unfortunately, the issue has repeated itself with my new RTX 3070, causing my computer to crash. While i was able to boot up your system again without any further complications, it is evident that the game poses a significant risk to short hardware.

Despite the game being enjoyable, I advise caution to those with older equipment. It is essential to note that my previous graphics card was permanently damaged during gameplay, leading to a shortened lifespan. Therefore, I highly recommend refraining from playing this game until the necessary measures have been taken to address this issue fully.

In conclusion, although Phasmophobia may provide a thrilling experience, it may also pose a significant risk to your hardware. Please exercise caution when considering playing this game to avoid any damage to your equipment.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing Phasmophobia with my friends. The game offered a perfect blend of funny and scary moments that kept us entertained throughout. From hunting down ghosts to completing objectives, each playthrough felt unique and exhilarating. I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a thrilling co-op experience and if the crashing problem is fixed.

Most people also know that games in early access are not always optimized, because as others have stated. optimizing something that is constantly changing can be self defeating, as you'll need to optimize with every change.

But you use exaggerated language and strongly insinuate the game has malicious faulty software that could corrupt or destroy hardware.

"It is concerning to hear that Phasmophobia, a game verified on Steam, caused damage to my previous graphics card, endet up breaking it by shorting it. Unfortunately, the issue has repeated itself with my new RTX 3070,"

And what you claim to be trying to say is "It runs dangerously hot so it can break things" but as pointed out...this is only a problem for things on their last leg. You wouldn't drive a car with mostly underinflated tires and then cry to the car manufacturer that their cars are dangerous by design.

If i have an old car that still runs fine doesnt mean i should take it to a race, this would be a valid comparison.

Since this game, as mentioned before my multiple other people, isnt optimized at all at strains the gpu, no matter what settings you choose.
So to extend that analogy - you expect your car that runs fine to work on any road, when in fact there are several roads out there that are poorly maintained.

Phasmo I'd say is one of those poorly maintained roads, but not because it wants to be... no, there's construction still going on in and around it. There's little point in getting the asphalt down when they have so much else going on that needs to happen both above and below ground.

It's like good green said - optimizing the game right now is self-defeating, especially when one considers that we have two upcoming major reworks on deck (one of which is going to be soon), as either of them could EASILY break any optimization attempts made.

If you're THAT worried about your PC's health because of bad or non-existent optimizations, then simply don't play Early Access games - Because like Phasmophobia, there are probably several Early Access games out there that may very well not be optimized and can potentially cause similar issues.

Hmmm ive played 45 hours of this game on a 3060 TI and Ive got 0 issues whatsoever with my graphics card... maybe its something else you are running along the game? or your OS?

Talking of OS which version of windows are you running?

I'm curious how you know it was Phasmophobia specifically, and not a fault in the graphics card that was on it's way to it's last moments and could have happened while you were playing any game and it just happened to be Phasmophobia?

Or that it wasn't a recent driver update? Or an OS update that modified how your card was called? A mobo update? Any number of dozens of different possibilities?

Can you objectively demonstrate that it is DEFINITELY, 100% the fault of Phasmophobia and not caused by anything else?

My kids not having any trouble running this game on my ancient computer. Things running hardware that is 10 years old. My work computer and my wifes gaming machine also have yet to explode.

If you are burning through graphics card so quick, is there perhaps something else you do that causes the problem? Are you overclocking?

Never had a problem with Phasmo on my 3070. You sure something else isn't causing it? A short in your graphics card sounds more like a hardware problem than software.

Unless this game suddenly became New World and started to give power draw issues, this game is not the issue for why your GPUs are failing, and since you're having it with 2 different cards, it's likely the motherboard has issues. This game gave me no issues, apart from the stupid random stuttering on both my 2060 super, and my 6950XT.

If you're going to try and blame the game for something like this, provide video proof, or some other proof beyond just words, people would definitely complain more about this if it were true and would likely be picked up by some news outlet.

any game or software can cause malfunction in your hardware
15 years ago I had 2 PC start burning from running point and click games and using dial up internet
so I do not know what you are on about tbh

Not the games issue, "burning" as you call it, was likely poor fan placement for cooling. the old cases had bad airflow, as opposed to modern ones in the past 2-3 years. Overheating is typically caused by bad fan placement, PC being on the floor with high carpet, dust/hair not being cleaned properly, a bad overclock not properly cooled, pump or air coolers not properly mounted, and many other faults of user error. Games don't stress hardware enough to cause issues unless user error, or a programming error to bypass power limits, such as what happened with New World.

MSI B450-A Pro MAX So.AM4

Case: (for showing i have good airflow aswell)
Fractal Torrent Compact

I loved playing this game, but it tends to crash multiple PCs regardless of their specs. I'm saying old hardware can be damaged because it has less functionality to protect it from being shorted, unlike newer, modern components. My old GPU (RX 480 Sapphire) crashed when playing Phasmo, and after that, it wouldn't boot up, and it was shorted. I don't ever have any problems with other games crashing like that. Yesterday, I thought I might try playing Phasmo again since I had a new GPU and thought my old one was just faulty, but no, it crashed my PC again. Therefore, I want to warn people that things might happen to their hardware since I've read multiple Reddit posts that were similar.

It happens when the map is finished loading, and both of my displays go black, and all of my peripherals disconnect. The only thing still up is my PC from that point. I never encounter anything like that in any other games I play or stuff I do. Maybe it helps to mention I'm a software developer myself, and I use both my PC and MacBook to do much more than just gaming, and I never encounter such big issues, ever.

I run it on a PC (i5 9600k 32gb ddr4 ram and a 2080super) . Two steam decks and a very old laptop running a 970m.

I have had 0 issues with this game. I tab in and out, run other games and watch YouTube.

Your issue is less likely thr game and more likely something to do with multiple monitors.

It just doesnt happen anywhere else no matter if its a benchmark, any other games, fl studio, multiple docker containers or anything has my PC even getting into a state near to that.

Just to mention i have a fresh windows install with a fresh phasmophobia install on win 11. If you search up multiple reddit posts you will find many people having issues with the bad optimization of this game and its heavy cpu / gpu utilization without any reason. I have great cooling and a good case with huge ass fans.

When playing other games my gpu barely hits 60° and 70-90% utilization and my cpu is about 65° and 40% utilization.

Do you use vsync? If not, try it, don't use the in-game vsync, use Nvidia's control panel. While true that this game doesn't have the best optimization, I still fail to see Phasmo being the culprit, I haven't read any other user with the same issue as yours. Try reinstalling the drivers after using DDU, as you went from an AMD card to an Nvidia card and the two drivers don't play nicely if installed together. your issue is similar to what I was experiencing with red dead 2, random crashes with only that game until I used an older driver. If using multiple monitors, fullscreen doesn't always work nicely either, try borderless. (coming from experience with 5 total monitors)

i would never change the gpu driver without using DDU in between ;)

And i use G-sync i could try borderless though

Absolutely 100% false.

Software applications like video games will NEVER break hardware. Source - 26 years in the computer IT industry. (And also, every other IT professional and tech-support source that exists.)

In the absolute WORST case scenario, the game will crash to desktop. System crashes are caused by corrupt or faulty system drivers. Hardware failures are ONLY caused by broken hardware.

Your video card was faulty to begin with, in some way.
