Even if you got cursed by the moroi, it would only be YOUR sanity that got tanked; so yours was likely at 0%. But depending on what everyone else was at, you may not have been low enough sanity to see a difference in speed.
So like, The moroi hunts at 50% and below. Above 35~% average sanity however, the Moroi is actually SLOWER than normal, between 30-35%, it's about the same as your typical ghost, below 30% it starts getting faster and faster.
Most people won't be able to really pick out a moroi by speed until about 20-25% average sanity or lower.
Since you say it didn't hunt for another 3 minutes or so, I'm guessing it hunted closer to 50% average sanity than you might've realized; Likely right in that 30-35% sweet spot where it sounds just like any other ghost.
As for the myling, You can hear it's voice clear as day from pretty much the same distance as any other ghost unless it changed in the recent update; It's footsteps are quieter than other ghosts though. You can hear other ghosts' footsteps from 20m away, while the myling is only 12m away iirc.
This can be a little finicky depending on sound setup, but generally speaking, if you drop a flashlight on the ground in your hiding place, and it begins flashing just before or right as you start hearing footsteps, that's a myling. If you hear footsteps long before the electronics are flashing, it's not a myling. One major caveat though is that this only works if the ghost is on the same floor; And by extension, if you're far enough from the staircase that if you're on a different floor to begin with the ghost won't be within 12~m when it reaches the bottom/top of that staircase, if that makes sense.
Don't have anything to add to above post, but on the quoted question I'd say that there's no reason to feel bad. Mistakes and errors happen, it's in the nature of the game. It's not at all difficult to misinterpret ghostly behavior or to miscalculate the ghost's position, for example, and there's no official sources to explain behavior of ghosts in general or specific types in detail.
See all this info I know already. The moroi I guess could make more sense, however the other players used and broke the mirror when I was out in the truck, one was dead, and we were in the dark the entire time. So that's why I was confused, because there is no reason that we should have been above 30%, but I guess it's not entirely impossible.
The myling however, was definitely beyond the 12m range. multiple games have happened where me and the team all rule out myling because we heard footsteps way further than we should have. which had me questioning if it was still just the footsteps or not, because I was trained not to listen to the ghosts voice. for example earlier today we did camp woodwind farm. I was at the campfire and the ghost spawned behind all of the tents. plenty far away from me but I could hear the steps clear as day.
another one acting funky is a polter. they can throw a 2nd item after .5 secs. I'll be watching as they throw an item, and then throw that exact same item right afterwards launching far as hell, sometimes doing that two or three times during one hunt. but i'll guess polter and be wrong. Earlier I had a ghost on woodwind launch a ball literally to the other side of the map, but it was an onryo or something. but then we'll rule it out after we set a bomb up and they hardly touch anything, and it ends up being a polter.
today we also had a moroi on nightmare, who we thought was twins because on ridgeview, it was in the bathroom across from boys bedroom, but active in both that room as well as another bedroom in the other adjacent hallway.
so at this point I'm just confused as all I want is to understand behaviors to be able to play nightmare a bit more effectively, but using all the knowledge I've gained from videos and forums isn't adding up.
thanks for the help tho, I appreciate it.
The difference between a polter and any other ghost in that regard is that a polter WILL throw an item every 0.5 seconds if one is in range; While for any other ghost, it's a 50% chance to do so. Any ghost can have a string of successful throws but they ultimately still have a fairly high chance to not do so.
So what you're looking for from a polter from a hunt is every 0.5 seconds an item getting thrown, Or to rule it out, to be watching for 0.5 second or longer intervals where the ghost doesn't throw anything.
As for the ball ending up far away, Balls roll- In fact a lot of items can roll. And there's unfortunately not really any friction in the game, so once a rounded item like a ball begins moving, it doesn't stop until it hits something. So you need to keep an eye on what kind of item it is and whether or not it rolls when interacted with so you dont get tripped up by that.
For the Moroi on Ridgeview, Any ghost can roam from it's room- They're not at all intrinsically bound there. All ghosts can and do roam around and do things elsewhere, and the way the upstairs on ridgeview is built, the girl's bedroom is close enough that a ghost roaming from the boys bedroom or the bathroom across from it is close enough for them to reach and interact with it.
What you would've been looking for to rule out or confirm twins isn't activity in multiple locations, since any ghost can do that; But rather, nearly simultaneous activity in two disparate locations. When it uses it's twinteraction ability you'll see one bit of activity within 3m of the ghost's current location, and another within an area of 16m~, at most a second apart.
The way this ability works is it targets an item at random, and then throws that item and all items within about 1m all at the same time. If there ANY other interactable objects in range that can be thrown and aren't in the polty pile, it's entirely possible for it to target that instead and it would seem like just a normal throw; Or it could just not do a polty throw at all, instead just singly interacting with things in the pile.
so as for the ball... It was LAUNCHED about 20ft in the air. literally. it went flying past the tents and I never even saw it hit the ground, there was no rolling. else I wouldn't have even brought it up. it's obvious a ball can roll. My understanding is polters can also throw things much further. that's why it ruled out any other ghost to me because I have never seen an item fly that far. it was wild.
let me fully explain the ridgeview as well. We originally thought the ghost was in the room where the music box spawns, because we got EMF there. after we set up, water is turned on in the bathroom I mentioned. At this point I'm already leaning towards twins right. so we set up in both rooms, and find out the true ghost room was the bathroom. and it's active. real active. so much so you would have thought it was an Oni. however it's only active in these two rooms and ONLY these two rooms. it was maybe a 10-15 minute game. so for a ghost to roam between only 2 of what? like 19 rooms or something? over and over and over in the span of 10-15 minutes is... incredibly low. when I say activity happened in both rooms. I don't mean it happened in this one and 2 minutes later in another. I understand the mechanics of roaming. However it continuously was active in these two rooms. something happens in the bathroom, and then I hear a door at the other room. Or after activity happened in the bathroom, I would run to the other room and get EMF over there. Sometimes giving up to five different EMF readings. 3 in the bathroom, and two towards the other room (I had tier 3 EMF) if it were just roaming over and over. It's super unlikely that it only chose these two rooms. You see what I'm saying? and on nightmare difficulty, I have never seen a ghost roam more than twice. if it was roaming this game, than it had to have roamed upwards to ten times. Which I just do not believe is possible on nightmare difficulty in a 10-15 min. game.
again, none of it really adds up.
