But it does have more maps and i do enjoy the system more. On the other hand this latest major patch is a whole buggy mess.
in the past, we used to mute pressing V and then we could hear a "breath sound". its not happing anymore in my game so sometimes i get confused if i am muted or not. maybe its just in my game?
jump scares? yeah they have great jump scares. good lore story side mode that is the game "blood stained" storyline? yeah. they call it an easter egg. or i mean, just take the entire story and make it a 'new update'
The blinking in and out of reality is one of the things that keeps me on edge during a hunt, never knowing exactly where it is in those interim moments and being startled when it blinks in a whole heck of a lot closer than I was expecting.
The ghost models aren't great, but to me they aren't particularly important either- For me, The atmosphere of the game trumps ugly or beautiful or disgusting ghost models.
It's always the same for every game: Graphics can generate initial hype very good, but are bad at player retention, while gameplay isn't as good in creating hype (though there are definitely exceptions, mostly with never before seen feature), but it has good player retention and go better conversion rate of stream/video viewers to actual player.
Phasmo focuses more on gameplay, while Demonologist is more on the graphical side, so it's not a surprise, that Phasmo beats Demonologist by a mile in terms of player numbers.
Obviously, both are still aiming to get better in the area they've focused less on in the prototyping phase, but the problem with graphics focused games in particular is, that when players realized, that they don't like the current gameplay, then they're less inclined to follow the games progress and thus it is less less likely to come back into the game, when gameplay improvements where made. Phasmo on the other hand doesn't have such a big problem in that regard, since people keep playing the game due to the engaging gameplay, so the chances are higher, that they get news about for example graphic overhauls.
And overall Phasmo is a lot more immersive than any other ghost hunting game so far. It feels like i really interact with the ghost itself most of the time, whereas in other games many things are somewhat disconnected from the ghost. Demonologist is very notorious in that regard, since half the events are map related and aren't caused by the ghost. In Ghost Exorcism Inc as well you're half the time running around and searching for cursed objects and such things and if you see the ghost it's mostly just about running away or attacking it, so that it vanishes for a few seconds. MetaPhysical and Ghost Exiles are probably the biggest direct competitors in terms of gameplay, since they focus more on interaction as well instead of presentation.
