another: spirit box. it's training. it shouldn't take 500 tries to get the ghost to respond. it should refuse to answer once and then answer the next time. I shouldn't be stuck in a training room until I get lucky.
yeah the spirit box part is awful
Just checking because ive seen it far to much already but in the training did you turn off the light when trying the spirit box? Also have you tried the text input because we know voice recognition is currently having issues
As for the spirit box, I'm of two minds; But frankly, It should work exactly the way it does in game- Not set up false expectations. If you make it so it ALWAYS fails to answer, then answers back to back, then the player doesn't gain any sense of understanding that it may take several, even a dozen or dozens of questions to get an answer; Instead they're more likely to conclude the first question just wasn't properly recognized, and that its meant to answer every time.
That said, All 5 times I've seen the tutorial so far, spirit box was acquired in about 20-30 seconds tops; Ask a few questions in room A, no luck, ask a few in room B, success, move on. My first time in the tutorial I got it after the third question in room A... And I just ran through the tutorial one more time to check, and I got an answer first try.
Are you positive you were even in the right room as the invisible entity for 499 of your 500 questions? There''s two rooms to the spirit box section one of which starts lit, ghost can be in either and wander between them just like a real map;the purpose of which is to teach you that you cant really get an answer when the ghost isn't in the same room the ghost is throwing things around you while you're questioning- If you see it tossing stuff in the second room and you're failing to get an answer in the first, it inclines you to approach the second room (and teaches you to turn the light off to boot.)
I found it helpful. The whiteboard instructions are thorough for telling you exactly what you need to do in the next rooms. The interactions are frequent enough that you don't really have to sit around waiting forever to see your thing work. And the DOTS ghosts being bedsheets with eye holes is funny.
Tho the only minor suggestion I'd have is if the DOTS ghost dummies actually moved around a little. Ghost isn't going to be standing still in live fire situations.
But overall it clarified a few things I was confused about, and taught me some mechanics I didn't know. Such as the initial confusion over spirit box, if it was "it's a radio so sometimes you get irrelevant radio voices" or "it's a radio so it uses the radio voices to speak" (turns out, the latter) and the white light being the confirmation you need to look for.
