So if you don't do all the objectives, you'll get less. Bare minimum is identify the ghost, but the 3 optional objectives contribute to the value of investigation bonus too.
There's also a perfect investigation bonus, which is for completing all objectives, identiftying the ghost correctly, getting 10 3 star photos of any mix of types, and finding the bone, which provides even more money.
So, A perfect investigation on 15x would net you 10x15=$150 and 150 exp extra. Worth going for when it's convenient to, but not really worth stressing over... Usually the bone will be the make-or-break on a perfect investigation.
On medium or large maps you are unlikely to just find the bone, and it's not worth scouring the map to find it on those difficulties either as far as money and exp per time goes. but on small maps finding the bone is easy and nets you one of your ten photos too; And generally just attempting to get a perfect investigation nets you much more money and exp even if you dont get it- Since you'll have a full/mostly full photo book, possibly the bone, and all the objectives.
