Update isn't awful but it feels largely meaningless....

Hi.

Preface: I love this game. I have almost 800 hours in it and was over level 4000 before today. I played the new update 8 hours today. Even ignoring the bugs, this update has been very disappointing and a lot feels both meaningless but also like it will push away more casual players.

1. Level "Reset". Why was this needed? It shows up on the badge. The fact that this was even recorded means the reset didn't need to happen. They could've given our levels back into the new system. Just meaningless.

2. 3 tiers of equipment. Tier 1 just makes the game harder, especially for new players. I think this is a bad idea since most people couldn't even clear professional regularly before. Tier 2 is the old equipment. At worst it would take decent players a dozen hours or so to unlock it all. So after a few hours tier 1 equipment becomes completely pointless outside of "challenge" mode. For causal players who can't win often, the awful tier 1 items (such as Spirit box that detects but doesn't respond until the 24th try) will deter people from playing. Tier 1 is far less fun than the old (now tier 2) equipment. They make the early level games pointlessly more grindy largely just by having lower interaction rates and such.

3. Money wipe. Also meaningless. The higher payouts are nice but negated the money wipe since the only people who had money were people able to win at a decent rate. Those same people are making bank now. Why even bother wiping the money when we can still afford everything easily? I honestly like that we have to rebuy things that get used up - it makes sense. But the money wipe itself just feels pointless when we can make over $1000 in 5 minutes on professional.

Overall the game is still fun, but for the first major patch in a year, I'm disappointed. Again, I'm a huge fan of the game and want it to grow and be better. But this update we waited a year for.... It's weird how most of it feels pointless. The tier 1 equipment feels like a step back completely. I love the designs though.

I also like all the ghost changes/fixes, those and tier 3 items are the only things that don't feel pointless in this update.

I agree with point 2. It's like hard mode is in the beginning and easy mode in the end, which may turn away so many newbies.

Completely agree, Teir 1 is so bad and grindy its not even fun. Dev this isn't some MMO we want to grind for. We want new maps, new items, better ghosts. Not a harder and longer grind,

as a casual player i completely agree, its going to take me a millennia to be able to get to decent equipment after this update and it honestly makes me wonder what the point in continuing even playing is unless they change things, i dont have time to sit and grind for hours and hours a day just to get back the items i already had that kept the game at least playable.

I feel the level reset wasn't needed as well and we should be able to keep the money that we've earned from the last play through. This makes the game so grindy it gets boring quick. Putting item tiers are ok as long as we can just buy them from the money that we already have accumulated. I've played this long and you're making me grind for everything again it is borderline infuriating.

Agreed that tier 1 items are absolute garbage. They should have started tier I items with the last batch of equipment we had and moved up from there to make things better.

Rewarding veterans like me with a badge to show my past level is largely pointless too. Just give me my hard earned money back. I had like $800k. Playing from $0 feels damn insulting. It makes me feel that I lost a game file save instead and playing from scratch.

BTW with T1 items good luck finding Goryo Dots solo. You can only see the Dots effect by camera, and the ghost doesn't want to walk through the area if you're not in the room.

Yeah, I literally stared at a camera for 30 minutes with DoTs pen on a table and the goryo was never visible. I wish I recorded it. Ended up guessing it was Goryo since the other evidence wasn't happening either, got it right.

some tier 1 equipment is situational better, mainly the polaroid camera can have advantages and the UV sticks are not electronics

I do agree on most major items the T3 is the best

The issue is the Glowsticks before were their own item so I could have 2 Glowsticks AND 2 of the UV flashlights, which was nice when looking for finger/footprints.

pretty sure this update has been forshadowed for months and even years on the roadmap as well. the game isn't finished its early access, and that means resets like this is to be expected. also there is no way you have 800 hours and didn't know this was coming. I also agree that there is plenty of bugs which completely ruins the experience for me. but I have high hopes (hopefully) for horror 2.0 update
