how does spirit box work now?

It didnt work for me in the tutorial but on a normal map i did get a white light rather then red, and some thing talking but so not like it was before where it would say something clearly this was muffled due to the way the new one works

The tier 1 equipment are designed to be worse than the originals which are now tier 2 equipment. I'm guessing it has a lower chance to get an actual response. Check the store description for detailed information about how items work. For the tier 1 spirit box, a red light in the lower right corner means it heard you while a white light means it responded.

I think audio is completely broken, not necessarily the spirit box itself.
I'm getting no audio input at all across both my microphone so check if you're getting the same

I had to change the audio from headphones to pc and it worked ok; worth checking in audio menu.

When red dot, that means no ghost voice. I remember seeing white dot for ghost voice or some other color.

Can confirm. When I get a positive response, basically to me it sounds like I'm getting radio interference. Like I thought I had momentarily gotten an interception from a radio show with a female host saying part of a word.

I can confirm my own statement, when white dot appear right next to the ghost icon, it is a ghost response.

Still works the same way as before, switch off room lights, ask questions and see, if the spirit box picks up your question. The first box is even clearer about you having found the evidence, given how annoyingly loud and clear it is compared to what we were used to^^

And if you've problems in the tutorial, the test room has lights on intentionally (and it's quite easy to miss due to how dim the light is in that specific room), so if you don't get a response, then that's the reason why.

And yeah, as others said, white means response. You can also just read the item discription, not just for this one, but for every item. Makes it much easier and you don't need to guess how things work.
