Had a Goryo ghost event me on the first floor when it's room was on the 2nd?
Am I misunderstanding it's roam capabilities or can it trigger an event vertically if I was right below it? I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about ghost abilities but this is one of the things I've never been too clear on.

events and roaming are different from ghostroom, they can happen near a player or randomly, but the hunt from a goryo starts in his initial room

Goryo can't do long roams (and therefore not change rooms), but it can still do short roams even out of his room and then trigger an event, if it is near you and with that teleporting the ghost even further away from the ghost room in some cases. And due to staircases often not having that many things to interact with, it often goes unnoticed by players before the ghost roams back into its room again (like you might just have a lack of activity for a short time, until it returns)

Getting an event is not Roam Based or room based. You can get an event almost everywhere

Thanks all for the answers, everyone. The answer was so obvious.. I was clearly overthinking it.

Not everywhere, as events can only trigger if the player is on the same floor and within a specific distance to the ghost. So roaming can definitely raise the distance between the room and the possible event spawn locations. Like the ghost could walk 5 meters out of the room (or down the stairs) to barely be in range to do an event and then get teleported even further across the map to one of the event spawn points near the target player. Doesn't happen that often, but when it does, it can mess up the players assumptions about the favourite room.

Though Wraith, Phantom and Banshee have special abilities to roam or teleport to the player, which can definitely give players the wrong impression of how ghost events work in some cases.

The same floor caveat does raise the question of how I got an event from the garage when the Goryo was on the 2nd floor hallway.. Which is more or less what I was wondering in the first place.. If it somehow was directly above me and thought it was in the same room as me since the technical distance was so small...or something.

There are a couple maps where sometimes the ghost can glitch into another room...the most consistent for me is Tanglewood, I have a lot of basement ghosts that poke their heads into the dining room for interactions, but never move their room out of the downstairs area. I'd say at least half the time I get a basement ghost there, it will do interactions upstairs exclusively. You get used to the quirks over time ;)

Staircases count towards the lower floor mechanics-wise, so once it is on the first step on the top of the stairs and decides to do an event, it will look for targets on the lower floor.

Though i don't know how big the radius is and if it is big enough to reach for example the garage in ridgeview, but it should be near enough for the space before the basement door and probably even the toilet and when it decides to do an event at a player in these spots, it will pick an event location around the player, which might also be within the garage in some cases.

This had happened on Edgefield. The garage is technically on the opposite wall of the staircase so that might explain this whole thing.

i think it was closer to the wall between garage and staircase, it can spawn in that range. :) don't worry, it happened a lot to me aswell.

The staircases on Edgefield are the bane of my existence XD the number of times I have forgotten that a ghost can glitch through the stairs while coming down from the 2nd floor and nail you on the stairs going down to the basement...gotta be careful for those little moments XD
