If you were using the thermometer, make sure it actually dips below the freezing point (0C or 32F)... being slightly higher cannot be used as a rule of thumb anymore, they fixed that awhile ago
In either case - behavior should have been your big tell you got something wrong. Demons hunt pretty aggressively and more often.
Also as wolflink said, a ghost ball looks like breath, though once you hear the hissing, then make sure to not take the smoke ball as evidence.
As for the spirit box i need to ask if you know how the spirit box works exactely:
- Were the room lights off?
- Were you alone in the room in case of a shy ghost? (for professional or higher always assume, that it is shy until proven to be non-shy)
- The ghost will only ask when being in the same room as the one who asked or within 3m. Taking that into account, did you make sure, that the ghost was actually there (for example due to activity near you)? Also make sure to check adjacent rooms to not be tricked by a ghost in the next room throwing stuff in the room you currently are in
- Did you check it multiple times? Given that it is only a 67% chance of a ghost answering, you should definitely try it like 10+ times at least and preferably another try every few minutes, if you want to be extra sure
- Also did you get the X often enough?
Also if you doesn't get the spirit box right away, it might be worth throwing them on the floor switched on. If you're still talking within the game with each other, then you might get the automatic question every now and then. Not as effective as using it actively, but it can give you a lucky evidence while doing other stuff.
You're playing at Fahrenheit? then everything below 32°F is considered freezing.
For °C it is below 0°C, so with that setting you don't need to look at the number and can solely rely on the minus sign for the evidence.
But when you're playing with °F, then it shouldn't have go below 32 at any point, so having it still do so is definitely a bug then.
