the sound sensor is practically useless

throughout my entire gaming experience with phas, i have never once used the sound sensor. it's a cool idea, but i feel like an objective to use it needs to be made or something. otherwise, it's the least useful item in the game.

one of the ghosts can be identified a lot easier with it i think, i mean still pretty useless other than for quests.

It can help you keep track of multiple locations if trying to narrow down to the Twins, as well as being yet another way to help zone in on the Ghost. It's certainly a very useful item if you have someone hanging around in the Truck.

If you want to talk about useless items, take another look at the Head-cam. It's been mechanically pointless since the update that allowed Video Cameras to be used in your hands. There's effectively no reason to bring them.

I guess they just don't touch anything anymore as of now, since the upcomming progression updates will change the loadout anyway. So i guess they'll also change that item to be usable without running back to the van or if they can't find a useful option for it, then i wouldn't even be surprised, if they delete it completely.

The only ghost where it might be able to identify it with the sound sensor is the twins through getting 2 signals on 2 different sensros, but it is as easily detectible while being inside the house by just hearing 2 things getting touched directly instead of just seing it on a screen (which still has the problem of not being able to tell a twinteraction apart, if both things happen in the same radius).

On medium to large maps on higher then nightmare diff they are a great tool in single player, use them with a candle, place them strategically then wait in the van to narrow down your search from large areas to just a few rooms safely, then use your thermo. Some walking but more surviving, most times you will find the ghost while placing them but for those shy ghosts they are very usefull. Yes as some have pointed out you can use your ears but then you run more risk to. (ie. Onryo and a candle etc)

You run the same, if not higher risk by entering the building half a dozen times to place or readjust your sensors. By the time you've placed all of them down and get back to the van you might've already lost a ton of sanity or when you're using a candle, then your fear of Onryos isn't really prevented by the sensor anyway.

Also keep in mind, that the Onryo only hunts on every 3rd blow out, so the risk isn't as high as you might think. And if you're refering to a Chapel-Onryo, then you're in a very bad situation, no matter if you're entering the building with 2 sound sensors or whatever you're starting with normally

Sound sensors are good way to locate the ghost without draining your sanity.

Sound sensors are one of my favourite tools in the current version, they've effectively replaced the thermometer as the start of game ghost finder.

I see a lot of people saying it's useful on larger maps for narrowing down where the ghost is, but isn't that what parabolic mics are for? They seem more useful overall and don't require them to be placed plus a quick sprint back to the van. If you're playing really slowly and strategically I guess they could be better but I'm not gonna be camping in the van on singleplayer.
