But there is one ghost noise that can easily be overheard, especially on distances or over floor areas. It is one of the moarning/breathing ghost noises which is quite "stealthy" and can really take you by surprise.
That could be the case for the Spirit i encountered then. Her footsteps where so loud, i could hear them from the basement. Considering she'd let out a moan as soon as she was gone, she was probably moaning all the time but her footsteps were overshadowing it.
One thing that could have happened to you is the "fake" ghost event. What happens in this case is that a ghost will initially perform a ghost event, then IMMEDIATELY begin a hunt once said event is over. What could have happened in your case is just that: you witnessed a ghost event, and you probably stood in place, thinking that it was just a spooky event and that you were safe, only for the ghost to initate a hunt *exactly* where you were standing, thus killing you instantly. A similar thing happened to me once when investigating a Mare on one of the farmhouses.
That may be it - but I could hear it walking around and it went away, then I walked out the room and I heard foot steps again and then it may have switched to hunting. But it didn't make any sound apart from foot steps the whole time.
Did you were the host or a non-host? I remember when I played with my friends, that some of them told me occasionally that they did not heard the ghost noise at all (I was the host). I usually call out hunts loud as soon as I know it is one, so they hide successfully even without hearing the ghost iteself.
Isn't there a ghost type that becomes quiet when hunting? I may have to double-check this.
I see. Lag is one possibility. I almost always play solo, and the few times i play coop, it's always with my friend, and i'm always the host, so i can't tell you how does it feel like to play with lag. Perhaps the lag delayed the ghost's sounds
It was on single player
Do you remember what ghost type it was???
I've just played another round and it was a wraith - which didn't have foot step sounds (but did make sounds scary sounds when hunting.
It also didn't seem to able to find me during three hunts when sanity was around 10%, I thought it can see through walls and fly through them.
The wraith can fly, but it cannot see through walls. The only one who can is the Deogen - in which case it will make a B-line to your position, so hiding is useless against it.
As for your mysterious "no sound" ghost, perhaps it was a Spirit, because i did fight a Spirit once who apparently made no sounds, just footsteps. But i really think it was just her footsteps being so loud that i couldn't hear her moans, and i was hiding on the basement the whole time because she was chain-hunting. Maybe something similar happened.
Either that, or just some rare bug.
YFYI, Wraith do footsteps sounds, always. You cannot tell them apart by this one. The "flying" thing only applies to the fact that it will never produce green UV footprints when stepped into a salt pile. So if you hear footsteppings after it disturbed a pile, and don't find any green UV footsteps around, it is a 100% giveaway for a Wraith.
