To the best of my memory, the ghost opening it to check if you're in there overrides you holding it close. So you have to immediately click and hold the door close again.
I thought they updated it so you can't do that? Or they made it so the ghost knows you're in the closet because you close the door quickly after it's opened it?
yeah i always make sure i LOS and smudge AND turn off electronics but still never seem to have any hope, even closing the door again, the ghosts opens it straight back up and i die :/ it's really frustrating, whats the point of having hiding spots if they dont work properly... maybe lots of bugs in the game at the moment? i just played a game earlier with a shade who hunted me at 85% sanity so i dont even know anymore
Holding the doors was never safe if the ghost knew you were in there.
I died a couple days ago while I was hiding in a cabinet and spoke something to my team (Grafton farmhouse, upstairs on the right) and the ghost heard me while he was in the foyer (entrance of the house), came direct to me and instakilled me. I knew in the moment that it was because I said something.
On some doors you definitely were save while holding the door, on a few of them even when having flashlights on the whole time, since the ghost wasn't able to establish line of sight at any point. That's why they made this change in the first place.
It did prevent the ghost from opening/closing the door like 1,5 month ago. That's why some people get confused, if they return to the game after a long pause without looking into the patch notes.
