Reporting players, whats the point?
I've been playing this game since it came out, and ive never felt the need to report a player and ive played with thousands of random people. I feel like this is just going to create more problems and people are going to be continuously banned for no reason. or for stupid reasons. A game like this should have absolutely no ban features what so ever when every server is ran by a player. It should be up to the host if they want to kick someone out, and it should stay that way.

Exactly!
Yeah I agree, its hard to put into words why but I don't like this kind of thing either. I feel like the players should have the tools to govern themselves where possible, not some governing body, since the players almost always do a better (more immediate) job anyway.

Feels kind of like whats going on with Minecraft right now, only Minecraft has the benefit of already having anti-cheat plugins and moderation teams on a server level who can deal with situations on the ground. I always prefer that stuff to reporting systems like these. I also trust Microsoft infinitely less than the Phas devs, though, that doesn't man I trust this system.

Its all subjective though, I suppose. I am an INTERNET ANARCHIST I believe in KICKING and BLOCKING people WITH YOUR OWN TWO HANDS! CARVE YOUR OWN DESTINY!! ALSO JUST LET US KICK PEOPLE MID GAME AND ADD AN ANTI-CHEAT! OOOGGGGG!

I guess you haven’t had a lobby in which a hacker has taken you hostage then.
If people get reported they most likely deserve it.

I have, a few times. And it was entertaining and very rare occurrence. It didn’t ruin my experience playing the game. The idea of possibility getting banned for something stupid will though.

If you don't need the reporting system, that's fine.

If someone gets banned for something stupid, it's probably only their own fault.

You might want to compare the reporting and ban guidelines of the game to something like Steam Terms of Service. There's a surprising amount of overlap.

Congrats for being so cynic, that nothing in the world can make you feel bad anymore. But in the end most people doesn't feel like you. We've ~15k people playing it in peak times, so having a base set of rules is definitely needed at this point. Not for "something stupid", but actually to remind the players, that something like ToS and even laws exist.

yet there are hacks to target you specifically
corrupt your save, crash your game, filter random lobbies to rejoin a specific target
a hacker can shut you down from playing except you play private

That doesn't matter. People are pissed because they feel they can't play the game how they want. Which is true, they can't. They should be able to. Fourms/Discord/ect is one thing. But VOIP? Are you fking for real?

The only "stupid" people who should be getting banned are the people who are corrupting other's saves, if that was ever even a thing in the first place.

To be honest, griefers and cheaters should be the only reason for a ban. They should absolutely get punished somehow for ruining other people's experience.

There are some good cheaters that make the game more entertaining for others, but you are not gonna find them very often. Those, at least, don't deserve a report from me.

Griefers, on the other hand, are just there to piss people off for their own entertainment. They are getting more common nowadays in Phasmo, so this report system should help a bit. Hopefully.

Sure, you could just leave the match and start over, but they are gonna get exactly what they wanted and will do the same thing in another lobby. And they are not gonna get punished without you at least reporting them or recording what the hell they are doing for someone to see.

OP, you are right about how players should manage their lobbies the way they want to, but you can't kick people in the middle of a case, and there is no way to know who is bad until you play with them.

So, they can potentially get punished now. Which means more people will be free from their shenanigans. A healthier playerbase.

As for the other bannable reasons... I gotta say, they are pretty bad and certainly don't feel appropriate for a game like this.

100% agree. It makes no sense to me whatsoever as to why in the world have they gone as far as they did, it's like, it feels like that by the sheer virtue of these "features" existing you'll have to watch your back, especially since there's no way on Earth people won't abuse and weaponize it in some way.
Host being able to kick someone from the lobby is good enough and simple, and certainly not perfect, but better of the two, in my opinion.

PS: Quoting Phasmophobia's Steam page; "The community will be involved in EVERY step of development and can provide us feedback and suggestions in the Steam Discussions as well as our Discord server." looks at almost fifty Jester awards and the dominating consensus around the "Guidelines: Bans & Reporting" and #feedback-discussion thread on the official Phasmophobia Discord being "temporarily locked" so that was a lie, a lot of people didn't ask for this.

There is no feedback section on their discord. There is no community involvement anymore. I'd really appreciate a refund, but I'm going to engage in discussion as long as it's relevant to my library. They've gone completely off the rails; but from a balancing perspective they have a long time ago.

Feedback channels are made available after each major update. It has just not happened for 0.7 yet because the devs are still busy implementing hotfixes.

I agree with OP, sadly can't say much else without someone getting offended and false report me on here (again) since the moderation staff does a wonderful job and totally not corrupt :)
