It is even more scary playing alone.

It is super scary to play alone. It is much better with friends.

But when your friends are better skilled then they can know much faster what type of ghost is it.

Yes.

Not only can you play it alone, it's often recommended that you play alone as it can add to the atmospheric horror.

Yes, you can play solo. It's even suggested to run it solo since you get the benefit of lower sanity drain and sole use of all equipment (4 sanity pills all to yourself).

Not only is it possible solo but I'd argue it excels. Insym is probably the top top Phas streamer and most of his games are solo. As above I'd also argue it's easier solo as sanity management is significantly more forgiving alone - the 4 pills should keep you in the higher ranges over an average length game.

Highly depends on the group for what is easier. In solo it might be easier to manage your sanity properly without caring about light sources too much, but on the other hand the more people you have, the easier it gets to find evidence and especially doing so faster, since you can carry half the trucks inventory into the house in no time. So in the end it balances itself out quite good.

But ultimately playing coop should rather be about the social factor in these kind of games anyway.

if you're worried about getting scared senseless, that is based on your fear endurance. I don't personally find this game to be one of the scariest. it's actually pretty soft in the horror aspect with a few cheap jumpscares implemented.

the main reason you'd want to play with friends is to have the social aspect of the game. in fact, play with the right kind of people and the game can be pretty hilarious instead of scary, mostly because friends (or you) can cause chaos with cursed objects.

you can definitely play this game solo, but whether you prefer playing with friends or not is a different thing.

Scripted Jumpscares are actually what most people would call cheap.

The Jumpscares in Phasmo on the other hand could be considered atmosperical jumpscares, because they don't happen, just because, but rather are there as an important gameplay mechanic, which allows you to get actual secondary evidence and photo points from it, on top of getting you in a position, where you might want to dodge the ghost to prevent it from eating your sanity. So they're not just an annoyance, once you get used to it, but they actually still serve a purpose on top of just being there.

And yeah, it wears off quite fast, but that's not unique to Phasmos ghost events, but actually a problem, which every horror game needs to deal with. And that's where Phasmo offers great replayability.

my definition of "cheap" in this case is that the jumpscares aren't all that scary, mostly when they get repetitive.

I understand that it's a horror game we're playing here, and horror usually relies on these types of events to occur to live up to the genre. that is why horror isn't my favorite genre, since I'm a massive hairy cat. Phasmo just doesn't scare me in particular, although it creeps me out at best in solo play.

but because I'm not really all that scared by the jumpscares, I defined them in this case as "cheap," which is wrong because in reality, nobody can truly declare a single tolerance level of these jumpscares as everyone is more/less afraid of horror compared to each other. all dependent on the player.

Playing solo is just as cool as playing with friends. It's not that it "becomes a comedy" like when you watch horror movies, but playing phasmo with people is an entirely different experience. Most of the times I play with 1 friend, but sometimes I try playing by my own and it's a fresh experience. I'd suggest getting someone to play with you at some point just to try out something different; but solo is great
