The notion that there's some kind of distinction is just some ancient marketing nonsense.
Are you seeing more females or is it just because this game forces voice chat that you are able to notice there's more females (or at least feminine voices) playing games than you thought. I think in a lot of games a majority of people tend to be quiet or text, and trash talking which is mostly aggressive males is the majority of what you get outta a voice function. Phasmophobia you need to use voice for basic game functions and even leaving those functions to others, you still have to share with your allies what information you get. A mute player is a huge liability.
All of that aside: What might attract a different crowd to Phasmophobia is it's kinda a rarity in that it's a multiplayer game you can play with strangers that's not about violence. The one aggressor is the AI you're working against and you're here for science, not to defeat it. You don't shoot or punch anything, just grab pictures and gather evidence. I'd bet it has a very different crowd playing it from your average match of Halo, even if you'll still find overlap.
People of both genders do love scary and spooky things. Any paranormal enthusiast would absolutely love this game.
OP seems to be interested why that is
theres probably a lot of game devs trying to appeal to the female video game market maybe OP is one of them just asking LMAO
so why is this a game that appeals to what women are interested into
______________________________________
The game has no weapons, no ways to kill others, not even for fun, and it's just plain creepy. Women love scary things. I know more guys who are scared of the game than women. The excuse they give is that they're bored. Yes, who believes it XD
Agarillobob hit it on the head on me wanting to know why this game appeals to females so much. The part he got wrong is that I could be an anonymous game developer. I am not, I am just someone who is curious about why females gravitate to this game.
The reason why I asked in the first place is because of this: I have 17 female friends I play games with when I combine Steam, Epic Games & Discord. Out of those 17 friends 14 of them play this game (I do not). 2 of them have it wishlisted. Only 1 if them has zero interest in this game.
Now nearly all of my female friends do not know each other; only 2 of them I know in real life. The ones I met online I met them playing games such as Don't Starve Together, Project Zomboid, Overwatch, Rocket League, Soul Calibur 6, Counter Strike, 7 Days to Die, League of Legends, New World, RimWorld, GTA6 Online & Valheim. That's a pretty diverse group of games that bridges multiple genres so it's even more puzzling how none of them know each other and yet they all play this one game despite it being far-removed from the usual games they typically played in the past.
I do not play this game. I only know what my friends said of the game and what you can see on the store page and read in discussions. I still don't get why the game appeals so much to girls and women from different parts of the world and of different ages... But it does. And I just want to know why simply out of curiosity because I can't figure out what it is on my own. I hope that clears things up for anyone who was unsure on why I asked in the first place.
OP notices/sees this game has a higher female player count than most other games, and is curious as to why.
If I had to guess, it's because the game is a more casual and social experience, especially compared to most other games. It's pretty simple to play, and is a nice way to hang out with friends whilst being a fun and engaging experience that doesn't require a lot of playtime investment to be good at it.
