I have this question and I would like someone to answer me quickly, is it necessary to have friends to play or can you join matches with random players and have a co-op experience?

You can either join public lobbies or go on Discord and find some people there quickly. I suggest Discord as random public lobbies have a lot of toxic people in it - not speaking of all people, but the experience can be mostly bad.

You can play this game also alone. No need of a team. While you can learn a lot from other players in the beginning, the experience playing alone is much more intense.

My biggest fear is this, buying the game and getting kicked off the server. Because I don't intend to play alone, I find it more fun to play with other people, that's why I'm in doubt.

If you jump onto the official discord, they have a "looking for group" channel where you can join players who are often looking for mature people with mics. Random lobbies will always be a cesspool, but if you have a basis for what someone is looking for, you can at least filter them out.

Buy it, give it a go. I've had ZERO problems getting a lobby with people doing what I've just told you.

In all honesty, I've had little trouble with joining random lobbies in the game without using the discord. Yes, just like any game, some people can be toxic to play with, or may kick you, but if you feel uncomfortable, just hop out and into a different lobby before the game starts, or if you started your own lobby, kick them, or kick them once out of the game. but I've found that most of the phasmo community tends to be fairly nice and understanding, as well as willing to teach! Most of my best steam friends have come from random people that I met while playing random lobbies, and we do play other games together as well. You can't be kicked off the server, just from lobbies, and there's usually pages of lobbies available to pick from. And if none of that works, do like was already said, join the discord to look for a group. :)
