They haven't removed anything, that's the point. It has everything it had year ago, nothing was removed.
It's far too silent and the ghost roaming around makes this worse, because unless you're tracking it with tools to the letter it becomes an exercise in patience or luck.
There is too much over reliance on tools, mic for steps, motion for path, and soon-to-be voodoo doll to make it do something. Before this direction the player's eyes, ears, and voice were enough tools and it made the ghost feel more connected to the world.
Now the voice isn't enough, you have to follow the ghost around, with tools, otherwise it won't respond in any way.
The ears aren't enough, because you need tools to hear footsteps (which ironically is one of the most commonly filmed ghost evidence in hunting shows or amateur videos).
Eyes aren't really enough anymore, because the ghost can start a hunt far away and there's no visual indication anymore until it get's close, so the impact of hunts is lessened as well.
Not saying that before this things were perfect, but they were a lot more intuitive and the ghost felt less like a game AI that you push buttons on (especially with the future introduction of stuff like the voodoo doll) and something more independent.
It is good that they removed the footstep sounds. It was weird and made it way too easy to find the ghost.
I don't really get the rest of your post. You can still listen and hear for things happening around the house. You can still see things happening in front of your eyes. The change to hunts is good because it makes it more thrilling. Now you don't get the immediate cue that a hunt is going on and you go hide and done.
I don't really get what you mean by hunts being all that much harder now though.
My point is that although from a gameplay perspective it makes sense what they've done, from a horror atmosphere perspective it makes things worse, at least for me.
I now play more mechanically instead of feeling my way through, because there's nothing intuitive left now. It's more fun to think there is some sort of human like entity that responds to your voice and makes human-like noises, rather than employing a tool to tap into that.
Does that mean it's easier to find the ghost? Yes. Was that good? Maybe yes, maybe no. I always saw evidence gathering should evolve rather than just finding the ghost entity itself.
Only thing they removed was the Obake ghost. That is it.
They didn't remove it. You can still get Obake. Only thing they changed that every other ghost has 100% to leave fingerprints if they are fingerprint ghost, while Obake only has 50% chance.
Apparently it's not a simple thing to push out an update (not just steam, plus VR, etc), so they might be holding off until they have a bigger issue patched to push out, or until their next major update.
Yup, that's what i was telling a year ago already. But everyone was not agree. And now i see that everyone wants it so badly.
Took them a long time to come to that point tbh.
They removed footsteps [unless mic], the ghost no longer whispers in your ear, they removed the ability to see the ghost during hunts - now it's a shadow or transparent.
They also removed the ghost being seen floating around the rooms, like a shade or a large orb. It was very strange and was during very early access.
Yea you are right about footsteps. Now to hear ghost's footsteps you need to use salt first, once ghost steps in the salt, and if it's not a Wraith, you will hear and see it's footsteps. No idea about the parabolic mic tho, I rarely use it, but maybe it picks the sound up too?
Ghost can absolutely whisper in your ear, I don't understand why you mentioned this? I mean, it happens to me, it happens to streamer I watch and it happens to other players when I play in multiplayer. It's not supposed to happen each game, as it depends on other factors to do a ghost event too. Unless you meant a very specific type of event, very specific type of whisper I don't know about.
You can see the ghost during hunt, it's another one of those I don't understand why it's mentioned. As you said it may be transparent, it may be a shadow, but it also may be a full blown model with textures. Once again it depends on the RNG. But it's not removed lol.
Ghost floating around a room? Do you mean that mist/cloud/smoke orb that flies towards you and "silently screams" in your ear? That ghost event still happens quite a lot, unless that's not what you meant.
If you mean a simple ghost orb, then of course it's still in the game, it's one of the main types of evidence and it's very helpful.
Sometimes I wonder if those people who make such lists of "removed content" actually play the game, or they just tried it out for a few hours a couple of months ago and that's it? If you really play it, you see by yourself that pretty much nothing was removed, things got changed, but not removed. I don't have many hours in-game myself, but whenever I play (usually singleplayer) I'm seeing and experiencing almost everything that is on this list of "missing content" that people tend to post on forums. So unless I'm playing Phasmophobia Ultimate Edition, I call it a BS.
Oh yeah this thing. I loved this thing, gave me quite the spook! I understood why they removed it though.
