Me and my friends are not quite sure if this is a bug, or intended. As the spirit box can also have this behavior. Sometimes the ghost just doesn't answer to a specific person, even if the conditions are met. As soon as the person switches, ghost will answer. Sometimes the ghost answeres later on without problems.
This can change from round to round, even if the host doesn't change. It looks like the ghost sometimes just isn't in the mood to answer to a specific person, or at all. Later on in a round, he probably will.
Right now, me and my friends just switch, or check board and box later in the game to get an answer. It works out at least.
The funny thing is, if the Quija board is shutting itself off, it actually heard you. Thsi cn either happen if the ghost doesn't want to talk to you, or it actually answered to you by other means.
For example: if you ask "Where are you?" and the ghost is actually in the same room (which mustn't be ghost room), the ghost might just throw the light switch 2 times and the board shuts off. I witnessed it a couple of times yesterday. When I asked another question after reactivating the board "How many people did you killed?" it is answering me properly. So also count light flickering in as an answer for "here".
I also suggest ask "What is your favorite room?" or "Where did you died?" rather than "Where are you?". The two first ones are the ghost rooms, the last one may just give you the actual position of the ghost. Many people miss this difference ;)
It can be a hazzle yes. I noticed something funny - intended or not from the dev, I don't know. If you ask the ghost the same question over and over again, it will eventually not answer to you at all anymore unless you change your phrase.
That is why I cycle my questions. For the box it is "Where are you?", "Give me a sign!" and "Are you here?". For the board, I use "What is your favorite room?", "Where did you died?" or "Where are you?"... if the board shuts off, I make a check-question of "How many people did you killed?" to see if the board will answer me this time.
It does not matter if the lights are out or not, but it does matter if the ghost is more active or not and in the mood to answer specificly to you. Sometimes it just doesn't, so check later on or let another teammate crosscheck it. For the box, the position is also vital. The question must be asked in the room are he is in ->right now<- (box can be outside of the room). We also had the situation that the ghost was only answering on the right side of a classroom in highschool, but not on the left side (like it can happen with freezeing temps also). Being creative while checking is important.
I witnessed a couple of times that the answer actually DO differ :)
True, most of the times both question will give you the same location as the ghost is most of the time in his ghost room. But it can wander around (especially Banshees).
Three examples I remember:
Example 1: Asylum
Question: "Where are you?" Answer: "Basement Corridor"
Question: "Where is your favorite room?" Answer: "Storage 11" (looked like Storage 1 first, which confused us a little)
Ghost room: Storage 11
Hunts mainly started from: Storage 11
Example 2: Edgefield Street House
Question: "Where are you?" Answer: "Upstairs Hallway"
Question: "Where is your favorite room?" Answer: "Upstairs Bathroom"
Ghost room: Upstairs Bathroom
Hunts mainly started from: Upstairs Bathroom
Example 3: Tanglewood Street
Question: "Where are you?" Answer: light flickering / board shut off (we were at the main entrance hallway, light flickering indicated "here")
Question: "Where did you died?" Answer: "Utility Room"
Ghost room: Utility Room
Hunts mainly started from: Utility Room / Garage
And that is why I never rely on the answer to "Where are you?" alone to get the ghost rooms location. Just my humble experience so far.
Example 4: Tanglewood Street
Question: "Where are you?" Answer: "Nursery"
Question: "Where is your favorite room?" Answer: "Living room"
Ghost room: Living room (confirmed by orb and freezing temps)
Hunts mainly started from: don't know, it never managed to start a hunt.
Obviously the favorite room question is way more accurate to get the actual ghost room.
Yes. Watch it yourself. If you ask the ghost "where are you" either on Quija board or for the box, there is a chance he will just flicker will the room light to tell you he is "here". I noticed the board shutting off automatically if the ghost does it (he will not directly use the board to tell you). The spirit box will say "here".
You can use this also anytime without a box or a board. If you ask "where are you" and the room/lamp light flickers twice, chances are quite high he heard you and is telling you he is here with you in the room.
Yes, this is also true. But did you never noticed that if the ghost is in the same room and you ask "where are you", the Quija board shuts off and the light flickers at the same time? Try it out.It happens so often in this combination, that I do not believe that it is an coincident.
It's not like the ghost will ALWAYS answer, sometimes you just fail your question, lose your sanity and the board turns off. Blinking light indicates your failed question.
