However, I'm pretty sure it ignore everyone else if its target is still alive and reachable.
Ditto. My group tested this recently and I could walk right through the Banshee when it was hunting its target and then it wouldn't hunt when that person stayed in the truck.
I always thought this was the way the Banshee was programmed - and that it would stick with that one player no mater what until they were killed or d/c'ed. Whatever the case, I do think it's more interesting if each time the target was no longer reachable due to exiting the building, it selected a new one at random and stayed with them until they too were no longer reachable. Otherwise you can cheese complete safety....
If a banshees target is dead or isn't in the building and it enters a wander phase it picks a new target.
If a banshee tries to use its special ability and its target isn't in the building, it's ability is cancelled. So if its target is dead or not in the building and it hasn't entered a wander phase before it triggers its special ability it will be cancelled as it hasn't had a chance to change targets.
If a banshee tries to hunt normally (average team sanity <50%) and its target isn't in the house it picks a new target and starts the hunt.
A banshee simply picks targets by going down the player list from top to bottom.
I'm not sure about whether other players can always walk through the banshee, but if the banshee can see its target and is chasing them then it will walk through other players without killing them to reach its target. This may not be true if it can't see its target, but if a non player target doesn't collide with the banshee and the banshee draws line of sight to them, it will ignore them and continue its wandering hunt pathing in an effort to find its target. But you might still die if you collide with it while its doing this if it can't currently see it target.
It also appears that non-target players can't get the ghost to come to them by making noise either.
Ah, yes! My team may have tested this in an incomplete/rushed manner. We may have had different results if we gave the Banshee more time to enter its next wandering phase after parking its original target in the truck. Instead we just hung out in the lobby for a couple of minutes.
I'll try to coax them into trying again next time we get a Banshee.
Interestingly it seems the banshee doesn't change target immediately after making a kill either. It either has to pick a new one during wandering or during a regular hunt. Otherwise it can try to activate its ability immediately after it just killed its target and it will fail.
Q: If its target isn't in the house, can the banshee still initiate a hunt?
A: No
Q: Does it just wander and ignore the other 3 players?
A: No, all that changes is if it rolls to hunt or use its "ghost power" it will go into an idle phase.
Q: If another player that isn't the target walks into the banshee do they die?
A: Normal hunting rules apply if a banshee is not hunting its target.
Probable answer for why this question usually comes up:
The post that is lingering in the wiki, that seems to imply that banshees change target if the target is not in the house, is a very early hotfix that was aiming to fix a bug where banshees would wonder outside of the house and get stuck if their target exited a door the second it started a hunt, my understanding, although I have not tested it, is if this happens now, a banshee will just pick a new target instead of trying to get outside of the house.
I hope this helps.
I'd doubt target switch tho. Last weekend we played an asylum and this banshee down there just completely ignored all my 3 teammates while I stayed inside the truck independantly from their sanity.
Of course as soon as I stepped in at the door range it began to hunt lol.
Anyway the code states otherwise. Banshees can change targets if it triggers a regular hunt or when it wanders.
In that thread the dude who's not me refers to the wiki... Thats not a good sign.
Do you remember if the target was the first or second player on the truck sanity meter? The order of target selection is also quite contentious.
Probably got changed, I dunno, I don't do testing.
I'm going by old guides.
We had three runs with a banshee the last nights (BETA). The first one was as expected: Two mates were in. It never started a hunt, even with sanity hitting rock bottom. I enter the house - Banshee goes nuts, because I was obviously the target. :)
But the other two were kinda strange. Both on asylum. I was in the truck the whole time, except from the beginning. 3 Mates in the asylum and ghost being calm (only some door movements, playing with the light, etc.). So I thought: Okay, it is me again. I enter escorted from a mate so he can get an easy foto. Banshee starts directly a hunt and chases us two. We survive and I go back to truck. Banshee starts again a hunt and chases my escort mate from before. He dies. So he was the target. I don´t understand why he didn´t chased him before or started the hunt and waited for me to enter, still, that I was obviously not his target?
The second on asylum was the same. No hunt for a really really long time. He wouldn´t even show up. I enter two feed in: he appears for a foto. I go back. I enter again: Hunt starts. He goes directly towards a mate and trys to kill him, ignoring all other mates in his way. He was also not going towards me.
The cruzifixed were used up in all 3 games, before the hunt, even when I was not in the building, also the time were I cleary was his target.
Has anyone else experienced things like that? Maybe Banshee likes it more when all people are in the building, also when the target is already in all the time from the start and he is more cuddly then we think? :3
