Luck be damned, just give stuff to the ghost to play with. Fill its room with objects!
The ghost pretty much always throws random items though. Unless there is nothing in the room, then it usually just messes with a door or something instead. Moving items around is the most common ghost activity and in a normal room with a decent amount of objects in it, the ghost will typically move or throw 10-20 items in a ten minute game.
