"Beta is being overhauled to be a closed beta system. The general idea will be that everyone will receive content at the same time rather than some having it faster than others. Updates at the Devs discretion will be tested by private groups rather than a public branch, and could last for around 2 weeks before being released.
There are no applications for the closed beta, so please don’t ask. Testers will be selected by the Devs based on their own requirements."
As for the reasoning, It's likely to get a more focused stream of actual bug reports than of people screaming their heads off because they opted into the beta version and "OMG THERE ARE BUGS!"
So the guy can't handle a few kids screaming "OMG THERE ARE BUGS!" ?
Sounds professional...
Especially true since you actually Gain more people to play with since players won’t be split between Beta and Non-Beta Clients, meaning a larger pool of players and games to join. Less segregation of the playerbase is a good thing in this case.
Except those we like and do get access to the beta?
It's kind of that mentality right there that likely led to the beta going closed in the first place. It was never meant to be a place where people got to see what was coming next, but rather a tool for the devs to get focused feedback on what needs to be fixed before it goes to the masses. Most people just logged into it hoping for sneak peaks and complained in an unconstructive manner when they found things weren't as stable as they were used to.
You're pretty hard focused on the content; And unfortunately, You and people like you are pretty much exactly why the beta is private now.
They need people reporting bugs, Constructively. Not people whining and complaining that there are bugs in the beta. Not people shouting at the forum that the game is bugged without actually elaborating what bug or how. Not people discovering major bugs/exploits like the 'Show us' thing and then sitting on them hoping it doesn't get fixed so they can keep abusing it. Not people who are just playing the beta for early content who never report bugs.
They want the beta to be about Bug Testing, The way it should be. Not about early access to content.
The dev wants to go private? Sure that's fine. But don't try to justify it with such a flimsy excuse.
If the main branch is so stable and finished, might as well make it 1.0 right? It's totally not a WIP right? Punishing the entire community because some of the community are jackasses, is just dumb. I think that is bottomline really. Plus that bit about don't even bother trying to apply to the closed beta.
That's...you know...the whole reason Phasmophobia is in Early Access.
