The game itself does not use cheap jump scares, but spooks will happen.
* Playing solo is more creepy than playing in a team (the more players, the less creepy)
* VR is more critical as the immersion is more real
* If you know the game mechanics very well, you begin to control the ghost, it will be less scary then
* Personal conditions. I am not a person who freaks out often. But I had 2 or 3 moments I was screaming shortly because the ghost spooked me totally by surprise
I play VR. When I started the game in March I would say a 6 out of 10. Now it is more a 3 out of 10 as I am very experienced and I am now used to play successful solo rounds on professional difficulty. In a team it is a 1 out of 10 for me now, as it more feels like a funny ghost hunting party going on and we make a lot of jokes with the ghost :)
Best thing is to do the tutorial, then join a team of players till you get the hang of it. Stick to your teammates and support them (carry equipement) to learn from them. If your personally scary factor is decreasing, you can try to play solo rounds, or get a VR experience.
Be aware that there are a lof of toxic players out there in public lobbies. Finding a good team is critical to have fun in this game. But there are still a lot of nice people who love to teach newbros how the game work. It is best played with 1 or two friends.
