Friend can play online with us without internet connection
So, to explain, my friends internet gets disconnected on school days at 00:00 am.
One time we were playing phasmophobia and the time hit 00:00 but he didnt disconnect and could just keep on playing, everything worked, voice chat, could walk, sprint and pick up items, while he got disconnected from discord and couldnt use any other application which used internet.
So... does anybody have an explanation for this? because i cannot simply wrap my head around how that is possible

So... your "friend" interacts via a spirit box. Did you spot orbs? Freezing temps?
Throw the book at him. You might be dealing with a entity that hasn't been published yet.
We call these "The Watchers". They are extremely dangerous.

*serious note* It should be impossible to play without a internet connection.
It's possible that your friend's connection doesn't get disabled like that, personally I've never heard of connections getting disabled automatically. More context would help here.

Given that you're using the term "School days", it's probably safe to assume your friend is younger and what's really going on is that his parents don't let him use the internet on school days to focus on his studies.

There's devices that can limit internet access by application, website, protocol, and other things. Some routers also have this functionality, but it's generally more common in devices like Disney's Circle - dedicated internet filtering devices that are commonly used by lazy parents to avoid actually parenting and teaching their children responsibility.

Depending on how it's been set up, certain applications may bypass the filter. So, in this case the majority of internet-using applications would cease functioning, but phasmophobia will continue working. In the end, it is simply a configuration error.

Facts: when your friend was able to play, internet connection wasn't down.

Okay so for added context, my friends parents want to see him succeed in school because apparently he is not doing the best he can do so his dad decided to just turn off his internet automatically at 00:00(btw he is 18), but his dad somehow noticed he could still play this game without internet connection and he was also surprised. Note: his dad is really well educated in the IT department and i think he has had multiple jobs in the IT field. There was no mobile hotspot used because his pc doesnt recognize wifi, but i think what Klip said is probably the case. I dont know how he turns the internet off automatically but he just does it.
overall, it doesnt really matter anymore because instead of the internet turning off the dad just cuts off power at 00:00. Might ask how the dad did it because i really dont know how. And the internet did turn off because at 00:00 flat he wouldnt respond in discord anymore and got disconnected after a few minutes

Well I have a theory, when your setting a timeframe on said internet, you can actually set it to say a certain ip... if they didnt want the internet turned off for themselves theyd just set it to stop internet on HIS pc... usually this is done through the devices lan address... if that is the case and say power outage knocks all devices out or his device resets and decides its going to set a new ip address.. the configuration for say device 192.168.1.104 is set to deactivate at midnight and he hopped to 192.168.1.105...

Sadly not questioning your friends dad at all but i do question IT department guys in general from experience with many kinds... company contracted and otherwise doesnt matter if your an IT guy... it is possible you still dont know crap. Again not saying he does, just dont put all your stock in someone because they work in an IT department or have worked in several IT positions... a majority of that tends to be situated with specific programs used by a company and in general computer knowledge.

Ive had an IT guy refresh my work background several times trying to fix an application error... refreshing desktop background...

Yeah i can see your point, and besides that i really think you nailed it on the answer because you knew something that i left out, which is that he only turned the internet off for my friend. So thank you for the answer.
Edit:
if he hops to other ip doesnt that mean he would have had internet for anything else? i mean basically nothing else worked
