Add Flashlight consumption/Batteries
Add the feature of your flashlight eventually running out of juice to maintain immersion and reality. Place batteries randomly generated in each map. Make them scarce - so that it makes the player more conscious of how often the flashlight is utilized.

Some may not like the idea, but for a deeper immersion and challenge, this would be a valid change.

I disagree. Batteries last a lot longer than it takes to play this game. It would just be an annoyance. I’m here to look for ghosts, not batteries.

this. it would make the game more of an annoyance, not fun.

an LED flashlight can last for a day or 2 MINIMUM of always being on... thats not immersion... also.. this is a prepared crew showing up to a scene.. not a apocalypse.

Pass.

As people have said:
1) Flashlights with fresh batteries will last more than a full 24 hours. We're barely in there 10 minutes.

2) It would break my immersion if I had to stop investigating to go get batteries every 2 minutes.
And it would have to be an annoyingly small amount of time, since we don't stay on maps long enough to make it longer. And if it was too long to matter, then why add it as a feature?

1) In many Ghost Hunting tv series the ghost seems to have effects on the battery of equipment.

2) So it would break you immersion that a ghost just skunked your light.. in a ghost hunting. Tho I do agree with the fact that we are not on the maps long enough unless the ghost is just being stubborn to make use of this feature. I would love to see something making it a bit more obstructive than (Find ghost room - Stage equipment - Crucifix and Smudge - Gather info - Bounce).

Ghosts already seem to have an effect on your flashlight, such as during a hunt or after your sanity gets low. Would be interesting having a static effect on cameras when they're hunting too, or if they appear on the monitor in the van. They could add an event where your flashlight might die for a second or two outside of a hunt if you're sanity is low enough, though there are bugs that do that rn which I hope get patched out soon.

My immersion is trying to figure out what the ghost is and avoiding possible death.
Not ransacking a 20 year old high school for a few Duracells left in the gym. Or running back to the van to grab an EMF reader, only to step inside and then run BACK because my flashlight decided now is the time to die.

You don't add things if they will subtract from your gameplay loop instead of add to it, and having limited flashlights is just a bad idea to me. Sorry.

i see it from both sides i for one need my flashlight or ill cry like a child who just got their safety teddy bear taken and watched it get thrown in a fire, but to make it slightly more challenging how about a recharge battery like a shake one or crank style and make them do loud noise when you recharge them so it will make the ghost hunt you slightly faster

I personally would like to allow the ghost to be able to reach out the the van. Not be able to kill just spook the kids hiding in the van maybe scamble the screens for a second or make all the emf readers and such go off. Not a huge change just think it would be fun!

This is just interrupting the core gameplay for a mechanic that does not actually add anything to the game.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the game becoming MORE enjoyable if I have to stop every 60 seconds to shake my flashlight. It's just stopping me from doing the important things on a map.

Bad idea. No thanks. Not for this game.
TTV/TheZaviator_ Oct 22, 2020 @ 7:04pm
Prolonging the game should be done for equipment related to detection and not safety/visibility.

The flashlight as a tool is important to roam through buildings and get your bearings, as a lot of people aren't that good at their directional skills.

If certain elements needed batteries, or ghost interfearance, then items like the EMF detector, ghost box, thermometer and Cameras switching off and needing a battery replacement, because a ghost killed the batteries, would make the hunting better.

It'd be frustrating if it happened too much, and I do not think that this is the way the game should go currently, but in the future, this being a possibility, wouldn't hurt.

In what reality does a battery last for a few minutes?

Both good points - maybe it doesn't lean towards the 'reality' aspect as I initially proposed. Games like Outlast implemented a battery factor to the camera. The camera does die after too much use and thus, it makes you look for a replacement battery.

I still stand by function of a flashlight dying out and leaving us in the dark. It adds to suspense and terror. Imagine having no light to guide you in the Asylum during a hunting or while an EMF nearby on the floor begins to show level 5.

Perhaps some are against it because it would add to the challenge and thus create more occurrences of death. I get that. Just would be nice to add the feature in a 'higher' difficulty setting.

As it stands right now, the game has become criminally easy. Add more challenges.

Too many horror games make use of criminally crap batteries that barely last two minutes. It's unrealistic and feels cheap to die because you were forced to endlessly search for fresh batteries. Outlast did this to a lesser extent with the night vision camera mechanic and several of my friends who played it voiced annoyance at the way searching for batteries took them out of the moment.

Maybe ghosts could to temporarily short out flashlights if you stay in the haunted room for too long? All that flickering could overheat the flashlight and require it to cool down before being effective again. It'd add to the panic factor without requiring you to go out of your way to search for batteries.
