Voice Recognition with Private Voice Chat

So me and my friend were playing this game and we were talking to each other through Steam's Chat Window. Does Voice Recognition still work?

I don't see why it wouldn't. The game picks up on voice recognition regardless of voice chat so it should pick up on it regardless of if you use in game chat, steam, discord, etc. You might have to push to talk local chat for the spirit box but aside from that it should be able to listen regardless.

We were using discord and the in-game voice chat completely broke (spirit box included). The test in settings still showed it working, but it clearly was broken in-game.

I recommend only using the in-game voice features while playing.

There are certain trigger words that will cause activity regardless of whether you are using ingame voice, ingame radio or discord; ect. Saying words and phrases like, "I'm scared," "Get out," "Run," "Hide." are just a few examples. Saying phrases like, "This is spooky," and such will also cause activity and hunts aswell. Be careful what you are saying to your friends, even when not speaking in game chat. Also on a little side not, you do not have to be talking in game for the ghost to hear your when hunting. If you mic can pick up your Air conditioner humming in the background the ghost can hear that while hunting and may just come straight for you. There is a wide variety of phrases and words that will trigger ghost events and ghost hunts even if you do not talk in game at all. Good hunting!

So the in game voice chat didn't work for you to talk to eachother either or just didin't get a response from spirit box? Not all ghosts reply and it can be SUPER finicky sometimes so could have just been a super shy ghost too. SB has also been known to bug on occasion and not give an actual response when it should.

We play with TeamSpeak and/or discord. No problems here, ingame voice works perfect.

There is really no reason that ingame voice don't work when u use Programms like discord.

Just remember that while yes, speaking without using the ingame voice chat works, it will eventually be patched out, so you'll need to use ingame voice chat eventually, but for now, using steam voice chat without using the ingame voice that (V or B) you'll still get responses from the ghost.

Funny hint. When you activate the ghost box and drop it on the floor, it works perfectly without push V/B :)

I now only play like that, because I have hands free for other stuff.

Having ghost box on the floor while it's on works with push to talk as well, so I usually drop it in the ghost room and turn it on while I go back to grab other stuff, EMF also works that way too, but it's a bit hit and miss because the EMF might not detect 5 unless it's hitting the right spot.

Spirit box works without V/B because Voice recognition is using hot mic atm (It's not supposed to) so it's fine to talk without using V/B. That also should work for Oujia board and angering the ghost

Jep, it works for the ouija board. But for me ouija board is like a small cheat. I ask the ghost "where are you?" and he tells me his room. To easy :)

I know, we had this discussion few days/weaks ago, but I bet with you that voice recognition will with push to talk will be every time in the game, even in the future ;)

You do lose sanity when you use it though I believe? Unless it's a demon. Granted, I never get the board to work. I ask it questions all the time and it never seems to do anything

You can bet all you want lol, I have confirmation from multiple staff members that it isn't an intended feature, so I'll always say that it isn't

Not only you. I write with some admins and the answer: jep, ghost can always hear you and we don't will patch that out :) but that's only a admin. Only the answer of the Dev is the real answer.

But let discuss about on topic, it's better. Sure you lose sanity. But that's okay because you will find the ghost room then very quickly.

Trust me, the last thing I want is any more fights about that lmao

I'm hoping that one day I'll get the board to work so I can use it, not sure if my voice recognition is messed up because it claims it works in the main menu

It is a feature that the ghost can hear you when you are not talking in game. It is so it can find you when hunting starts. Even one of the tips is something along the lines of, "Be careful what you say, the ghosts can hear you." Basically if someone is whimpering and crying without using in game voice the ghost will go to them.

I actually got confirmation from DK.
"The General Phrase Recognizer does not require PTT.
The Spirit Box requires PTT or PTT disabled. (Global & Local) (Multiplayer)
The Ouija Board requires PTT or PTT disabled. (Global & Local) (Multiplayer)"

So spirit box and ouija is not supposed to react to you without you using PTT. He didn't specify if its any sound you make, but keywords most likely. I'm gonna ask him about that last part to see if it's any sound you make or not.

I don't know so really, but maybe not every ghost can "speak" with the ouija board?
