Can the ghost talk without the Spirit Box?

I was watching a stream recently where a party encountered a voice that said "I can see you" after asking a question. The spirit box was not on and I have never encountered a ghost saying a phrase without the box being on so I thought maybe one of the players trying to troll. But they seemed quite puzzled as well. Is this possible?

they faked it , ghosts have fixed quotes to say ONLY in the spirit box

One of the ghost types, which I don't remember, is able to sing. You can her her sing even without an active spirit box nearby. But that's all.

I like to imagine it gives off spirit box responses even if the spirit box isn't on.

If by sing you mean humming, it is the ghost of the little girl. I am not sure if the ghost type matters, maybe just the model. I had her hum as a Banshee, and as a Jinn.

Lights in the area has to be off, aside from that it has to be actually on and transmitting the white noise sound. The voice recognition is a little wonky so it is useful to ask the same question multiple times.

For the spirit box to be used, yes I know I read the github code but i'm saying I like to imagine it giving responses even if the spirit box is off, meaning it is speaking it just isn't talking.

Oh my bad, misread the comment. Yeah, it responds to your questions and such when it is off, just not vocally. Like if you ask for a sign, ect. it may close a door/turn on lights/ ect., so you are definitely correct with that.

I wanted to correct you guys about the humming. The ghost skin/model and type do NOT matter (demon can hum, jinn too, even a shy shade can). It is a random chance that a ghost will start humming. Only thing about model might be that it has to be a girl/woman because I don't think a male ghost can start humming.

I am 100% sure that it was some kind of troll. I never had a ghost speak to me without a spirit box on. It's not intented in the game to have a ghost speak to you without using the spirit box.

Yeah I reviewed the stream and the radio push sound went off but they sounded a lot like the ghost. Thanks a lot!
