Anybody know how keeping items works?
If you die, I know you lose certain items that you've bought. What if you live, but you leave your stuff in the house? Will it still come back with you? Anybody able to give a general explanation on when you can expect to lose items? Thanks.

Only when you die will you lose items, things you brought with you (regardless of if you left them in the truck or not} will be lost if you die.

Wait, even when it's in the truck you lose the items?

You lose all Items, doesnt matter where they are.

whatever you brought into the game is lost if you die. if you survive and leave all the stuff inside, you still get your items back, you dont need to take them back to the truck.

What about Sanity Pills, Salt or Smudge Sticks? If you "consume" them in the mission, will you get them back?

As far as i've seen you can use them at no cost as long as you live. And since no one mentioned insurance, if you die you are supposed to get 50%/25%/0% of the base cost of lost items back depending on difficulty. That said, i run solo pro and live and they almost always give me $10 of insurance for seemingly no reason....

All consumables also come back at the end of a mission as long as you don't die. A lot of good info already here, only additional input I would have is that if someone dies on Amateur or Intermediate difficulty, take a picture of the body and they will receive insurance money to help get back some items they lost. This does not work on Pro difficulty.

You only lose items if you die.

If you leave items in the house, or use up pills or smudge sticks; you still get them back if you end the mission alive.

That's all very helpful information! Thanks everyone!
Just got this game and Losing an Item that is sitting in a Truck just seems pretty lame. I get if I had it on me while in the house if I die....but an item sitting on the truck shelf should not be lost.

This is the incentive to survive hunts. Otherwise buying items is a one time thing and by level 20 you'll be overflowing with dollars.

Do the items disappear only when the host dies, or perhaps only on a team-wipe? Out of curiosity, I bought 18 Sanity Pills (on Beta Branch) , and no matter what I always have 18 pills left in my inventory - whether or not my team and I take them and survive, or if half the team dies. (Never had a TPK, so to speak, so not sure what would happen then.)

Items are lost on death. Meaning if you bring 18 pills, you'll have those 18 pills until you get killed by the ghost. Those 18 pills will restock themselves without needing to be re-bought if you survive the mission. Your team will still have access to the items you brought for the rest of the mission if you die.

You don't need to take a picture to get the insurance. You just get it based on difficulty. On amateur you get 50% of the value of the items you lost back, and 25 on intermediate. Dead body photos are one of the worst scoring photos in the game and serve no other purpose than to contribute to your photo score. Unless you're NOT trying to max out your money from a mission (understandable since money is pretty meaningless after a while, but remember others in your team may not feel the same way) never take a photo of a dead body or dirty water. Its a massive waste.

I can get losing stuff when you die that was in the house, but if someone can escape with your stuff in the truck, you shouldn't lose it. (The stuff in the truck that is)
I had this happen, brough all my stuff, I only brought in my book, emf and strong flashlight, and died after a couple minutes.
My friend returned to the truck and left, but when we returned to the lobby, all my stuff that was in the truck was gone too.

Not a very nice system imo, definitely turned me off a bit since it requires me to grind money to get it back.

Like I said, it's fair if I lose what I had in the house, but not what was in the truck, that's where I have an issue.
