And the dev has said that the AI will start throwing objects at players. Next patch hopefully.
The few times I have gotten a particularly active or aggressive poltergeist I generally react with "really?" when we find the ghost type because they usually aren't that engaging.
ooooh, If we are speaking more generally, they can do some things to make it clear they don't want you there, but I usually get it from the territorial ghost types. Had a Jinn shove me out of the bathroom he haunted on Tanglewood (he slammed the bathroom door, but I was halfway in the room so I got pushed back out).
Also had a Mare in Ridgeviews basement one time that stands out. Didn't know ghost type yet, was trying for spirit box. Apparently "Are you friendly?" was the wrong question to ask. Lights go on and immediately back off, get the "hey" whisper, and then it manifested about a foot in front of me when I had backed into the closed door. Effectively got the point across that maybe, I shouldn't be there.
As to doing more things. Some ghosts will do something every 5 seconds. And there are other things, like the manequins and teddy bears teleporting around the map. Soon things that are breakable will break when thrown. The ghost can ping the microwave, ring phones, vibrate mobile phones, set off the car alarm and turn on the tv. Others that are probably coming are the washing machine, flushing the toilet (players can already do this, but ghosts doing it is likely happening soon), rocking the rocking chair, turning on showers and baths, and more i probably dont know about. Oh and throwing things directly at players is coming, and will be synced up with the ghost saying catch on the spirit box.
I don't know what you expect. The ghost to swirl objects around the room like a typhoon? If the ghost was any more active there wouldn't be any difficulty in finding the ghost or getting the evidence.
That would definitely make things much more interesting but so far it seems like cases like that are far and few between. Like I said, I had a Poltergeist one time basically turn the small farmhouse into a light show (flipping lights rapidly) while knocking on the front door LOUDLY, hunting within five seconds of stepping into the door. It was freaky as hell but it gave the game much more flavor when trying to get the last objective. Being a level 300 at this point, it's not much variety when the ghost goes around pushing picture frames and plates off counters and tables when it's "angry", like just yeet something across the room or at me. Hell, I remember solo'ing the roadhouse and the moment I walked in the door, a ball came down the stairwell, just stuff like that makes it better. Just moments to make high levels feel less "ballsy" since every ghost is the same old song and dance as the last.
Have to agree they are few and far between, that's why they do stand out so much when they happen. To some degree that's a good thing, they wouldn't be as special if they were more common. You'd be able to get used to it like many of the other gameplay elements over time. On the other hand, it does mean that most rounds are uneventful by comparison.
Sometimes that RNG lines up just right though and things get very interesting. First time I ever tried solo, well I'm a bit of a chicken so I opted for amateur Tanglewood. That's quite literally as easy as it gets, right? How bad could it be? Walk in the door, turn on that first lamp in the hallway. As I go to look up so I can keep walking the hallway, that light switches back off and the ghost shadow manifests in front of me. Noped out immediately (again, I'm a chicken...gotten far better now) from what should have been the game's easiest round ever. Already amateur Tanglewood and realistically, I found the ghost the moment I walked in. It can't line up better than that.
