What type of ghost was that?
1) You need to have your sanity less than 50%. Finding a Ouija board or sitting in complete darkness might help with that.
2) Some ghosts like Mare hate light, and will avoid attacking as long as it's bright.
3) I have a feeling that some ghosts like Shade may play passive all through the game.
Something you can try is picking up the ghosts' possessions or even removing them from the room/house.
I started throwing a Poltergheist's dishes out of the house (it was in the kitchen at the entrance) and got it to start spamming "Run" and "Die" on the spirit box without anyone talking, then I went upstairs and grabbed two laptops then threw them in the dirty water in the kitchen, the ghost immediately started a hunt and murdered my poor teammate that was hiding in the utility closet.
It would seem mainly Poltergheists and Jinns are really really possessive, so only touch items in their room (or the house in general) if you WANT to piss it off. The rest seem to only be very slight reactions, though usually turning on or off the lights within a few seconds of them touching the lightswitch will anger them (like they're saying "♥♥♥♥ you, I turned that off for a reason)
- They have nothing to really interact with for fingerprints besides perhaps the light switch at the bottom of the stairs, but I think the ghost has to be close for it to interact with it and it likely will just wander upstairs.
- Same with EMF. Aside from the light switch at the bottom of the stairs there's nothing to get EMF-2 on, you might only get a bunch of 3s and 4s from throwing/appearing. You need EMF-2 to get EMF-5.
- Not really sure where orbs appear in the attic, they also seem to be bugged or appear in weird spots.
For spirit box you need:
- Lights in the room off
- If it's an "alone" ghost nobody else can be in the room
- Keep trying different phrases, it might take several tries. If you get "Nothing Detected" you said the correct phrase, keep trying a few more times. Saying the ghost's name first increases chances it will respond if it's a spirit box ghost.
Being an attic ghost, as the previous person said there is nothing to interact with. However that doesn't mean you can't bring them items. I have no idea if they will try to interact with plates or dolls you bring into their room, but I generally bring 3 or 4 candles into the room and stack the wicks so if one goes out (either naturally or because the ghost blew it out) the others candles will relight it immediately. (Note: last patch did something to screw with that tactic, it still works sometimes but candles in general tend to just stop working randomly and can only be relit if you use a lighter or pick them up and throw them back down, it seems more of an issue where the game forgets to constantly scan for nearby sources of flame unless a player forces a check manually).
TLDR; Bring candles into an empty room, it not only gives you light to preserve your sanity in the ghost room, but the ghost will also be tempted to blow the candle out, which usually will yield an EMF 2 (which can be an EMF 5 if that is an evidence type), same thing if Ghost Writing is evidence, it will trigger an EMF response (which is guaranteed 5 for the one ghost that shares those two traits). Spirit box doesn't result in EMF reading, and you can't check for fingerprints unless it touches specifically a light switch, door, or window, so I don't have any neat tricks to help with that issue, other than SOMETIMES, very rarely, if you politely ask, "Can you turn this light [On/Off], it will do it if it was already standing a few feet away. It will never go out of its way to walk over to a lightswitch, so you have to have a method to track its movement.
several different things to make it work or just try some bad words. sometimes they can make the ghost angry too. i hope i could help u, let me know if u need something else:)
