Try again, and/or reload the game.
I've had it happen on rare occasion.

(and sometimes its because someone mis-read the code.)

Hey, I was facing the same issue. Turned out your friends and you need to be on the same region.
My friend was in the US and I was in the AS region. There's an option you get at the top right corner for this after you click play. Hope this works for you.

I can't load into a private game either, my issue appears to be that i have a AMD Graphics Card and the game just doesn't work properly with that card apparently :(

same server
it is not something we do wrong, it is simple... servers are too busy or a game issue

I wasn't able to join games earlier. Error saying game does not exist. I fixed it by opting out of beta programs.

I am in beta too

It could be different game versions. Such as before I was on the beta build and my friend the standard and we couldn't join eachother.

All players need to be on the same build version and same server.

Best way to test is for someone to make a lobby and give the code out and see who can join and who cannot. If that doesn't work then you can all take turns hosting and trying. Chances are it is different game versions.

If someone disables cross play you wont be able to join a cross play enabled server or vice versa. Make sure your game versions match, regions match, and cross play settings match.

Whats your NAT type? If it's strict you may not be able to join private games or connect with certain people.
