The learning curve isn't that steep, but I would highly recommend figuring out the game for yourself rather than reading up on the game too much, learning how things work for yourself is very rewarding and once your understanding of the game mechanics hits a certain point the game loses some mystery.
Dude if I tried to play this in VR I would go flying and land on my cat with the first scare! lol
you also dont have the death literally in your face when its on screen
