Phantoms always insta-kill me

I seem to get targeted and insta-killed any time there's a Phantom in a match. I'll play 5 matches, Jinn, Shade, Mare...ok no problem I complete all the objectives.

Then I'll play a match with a Phantom. Setup my gear, timer runs out, within seconds (we are talking as SOON as the timer runs out). I didn't provoke, we had identified the room. As soon as the clock goes off my flashlight flashes and It starts to hunt me instantly, I back into a corner because there were no hiding spots in the room and it kills me through the wall on the outside of the house.

This has happened to me several times. Is it just a phantom thing? What am I doing wrong?

You were probably the closest to the ghost or it was wandering near your position and when the hunt started you were in it's line of sight... Just bad luck

Nothing but a bad luck. Also, timer? There is no point in playing on any difficulty other than professional, just keep your sanity high if you don't want to be hunted. You can complete all objectvies on asylum solo with 4 sanity pills and not get hunted if you use those pills right.

you seem to think the timer is protection. it is not. it's sanity protection. during the timer, sanity drains are reduced. this is all. the ghost can still hunt and kill (as soon as you open the door, even.)

Might be just a phantom thing, I have the same problem with banshee's. They dog me all day first and It doesnt matter what I do or where I hide or how fast I run.

Banshees target individually. Your group can even be right next to a Banshee in an hunt, but if it's targeted on you, it's definitely not changing it's path.

Ok thanks, I guess just bad luck then. I'll try professional. I was working my way up. Figured when I stopped dying on easy I'd move to professional but if it's that much RNG then I might as well.

It was my understanding that the ghost cannot actively hunt you until the timer runs out as the guide suggested using that time to setup your gear. So I took it as, you can do whatever in the house free from death until the timer is up then all bets are off. So I thought maybe I was doing something during setup that was provoking it to target me immediately. I don't know.

The ghost doesn't start killing people at the start of the hunt. There is like a 5 second delay or something. So if you are trapped in a room with the ghost and there is no where to hide, you should run out of the room, even if you have to run through the ghost to get there. Obviously this isn't safe as you only have a few seconds and the ghost will be right on your butt but it is better than just standing in the corner. Well unless there is a really big book self or something right there, then maybe you could try to hide behind that.

I red that calling ghost name can provoke it and instantly end the setup time.

I had a phantom teleport to the van during a hunt. We were in the asylum on professional, I heard the heartbeat, emf went to 5 it's how we found out it was a phantom, it was the last clue we needed. The room was downstairs, didn't matter kept playing with the entrance doors also.

Also, I think I've read the banshees target is always literally the first person to load into the game. I have this game installed on an M2 drive, so I consistently load in first with my friends, and yep seems like the banshee likes me more than others.

With Banshees normally I load in first since I’m the host and have an SSD drive. Played one game where this one kid was scared to leave the truck. We were all up in the ghosts grill and he wouldn’t start hunting. Called his name and everything. My other buddy had an idea to bring the one kid out from the truck to set one foot in the front door. Sure enough it started hunting lol. Cracked me up.

"always insta-kills me" in the title assumes that you've got at least 3 games of approved behaviour check :D

Sounds like Phantom drains your sanity to 0 by appearing infront of you before the timer begins, and then just starts attacking since your sanity is so low it might just as well chain-attack.
Draining sanity super quick is what Phantom is known for.

Walking/standing around in the darkness, using Ouija Board, witnessing ghost appearance(and it hushing in your ear), all that damages your sanity.

any ghost can instakill if ur unlucky enough to be right next to where it spawns when it hunt.. there are areas in certain maps where haunted room is at the dead end and if the ghost spawns at the entrace blocking ur exit one of u is gonna die.
