Poltergeists likely just want to scare people, they probably only go into hunting mode when their victims no longer have anything left to fear.

Personally, I don't know if it was coincidence or if it is an actual behavior of the poltergeist: someone has told me that taking items out from the poltergeist's room will actually make it MORE aggressive. Again, I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence or if it actually angers them, since the book says something about their weakness being that they are "less effective in an empty room".

My personal experience with them is that they're pretty passive. They'll throw stuff, slam doors and mess with lights but will rarely attack unprovoked.

Unless again they are trying to scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of you because every single Poltergeist I've gotten they manifest before me to scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of me which seems to satisfy the damn thing because it doesn't manifest again for a while... I even had I believe a Rev manifest around a corner from me and walk towards me the moment I opened the front door, I swear the ghosts just seem to LOVE giving me heart attacks because they always do that ♥♥♥♥ to me.

Every ghost seems to have a threshold of "pissed off" you have to cross. Its easiest to tell this line is crossed with spirit box ghosts. When you start hearing "kill", "attack" and "death" in the spirit box, you know you have hit the threshold and the ghost will start to hunt soon. This is usually going to be at or below 50% avg team sanity.

For ghosts that aren't spirit box types, you can usually tell by their manifestations, ghost spook sounds, closing all the doors and turning all the lights off. They will also throw more things or knock paintings off the walls. This is the ghost reacting to you swearing at it, calling it names, etc. You can watch each reaction to what you say with an EMF and watching what it interacts with.

I've seen poltergeists back to back hunt and use up all the crucifix charges on both of them. You just have to get low sanity at around 20% and antagonize the ghost enough.

Poltergeists are just a normal ghost that only has the potential to drop your sanity if there are lots of items in its ghost room. Each time it throws an item it drops your sanity more than other ghosts. So it can quickly whittle down your sanity and cause more hunts if you aren't careful.

The thing is, most players probably never get below 50% sanity, grab all pieces of evidence and leave before getting a ghost photo. So of course you'll never see a hunt. :\

Source?
It's more like random responses, since we can get them in less than 1-2 minutes after entering the house for the first time.

Not just poltergeists but ALL ghosts get mad when you take stuff out of their room (especially jinns since they are territorial).

Most of the things you talk about are just purely random. You seem to overthink this stuff.

"When you start hearing "kill", "attack" and "death" in the spirit box, you know you have hit the threshold and the ghost will start to hunt soon."

- This is simply not true. Ghosts give you random answers and actually it can't always "hunt soon" if you have 100% sanity because you just swallowed two packs of sanity pills.

"For ghosts that aren't spirit box types, you can usually tell by their manifestations, ghost spook sounds, closing all the doors and turning all the lights off."

-Manifestations are random. I've had ghost manifest a lot the moment I entered it's room while still having 90-100 sanity and when I never even spoke to it yet.

"I've seen poltergeists back to back hunt and use up all the crucifix charges on both of them. You just have to get low sanity at around 20% and antagonize the ghost enough."

Any ghost can and will attack back to back if you have low sanity. You don't have to antagonize it. A mare or demon can attack you at 60 sanity even if you haven't said a thing.

The truth is that you don't need to try to anger the ghost. Just be in the dark long enough to get your sanity to 0-25 and it will hunt every 15-30 secs, no matter the ghost type, gender, skin color or whatever.

I don't think that's true because you get those responses when you ask "what do you want"

Oddly enough in regards to asking if the ghost's male or female it will refuse to even knowledge the question.

I noticed poltargeists are hardest to identify cos sometimes regular ghosts will throw as much stuff as they do. I feel like they need to be given the ability to throw a bunch of stuff at once or something more unique I guess.

They DO have such an ability, most ghosts throw one thing at a time, Poltergeists can throw up to three things at a time of course it shouldn't be the objects to ID them, check how many doors are interacted with because much like the objects Poltergeists can interact with multiple doors at once.

Don't rely on the door so much. Any ghost can close 2 or even 3 doors at once, even without showing himself.
