After playing in a private game, I was sent to the afterlife. What i found out is, you cannot communicate with any players alive or dead. You can interact with certain environmental objects such as lights i think (found this out near the end of a game). One more thing to mention, I had an instance which my comrade was being chased by the poltergeist. In ghost form, I chased the poltergeist away to the other side of the house to help him evade. It was magical.
