Oh it can scare you alright... had a really bad one in my opinion when a Poltergeist shut the front door on me, manifested in front of me THEN began walking towards me... I swear I thought I was gonna get killed when I saw it walking towards me holding the sickle.

Typically the people who want to stay in the van (from my expierence) are children that seen youtubers playing and got hyped, bought the game but are too scared to go inside, so instead they sit in the van.

Oh it can definiatly in asilim if his room is right outside the door XD
The porch area is considered part of the house. If you hang out on the porch during a hunt, the ghost can still get you.

From my experience you are safe in the van. It’s good to have one person in there on bigger maps. Also if you bring hundreds of dollars of equipment and don’t want to risk losing it you can be the lookout man.

There's nothing wrong with being in the van. If people want to do it, let them. Again, I'd recommend for everyone to be working the site before the ghost is dangerous, but retreating to the van is perfectly fine. Hell, I go there to update my journal and check photos rather than hang out on the porch.

I would not say this game has "jump scares". But I classify a jump scare as a loud loud instant noise, not to scare you, but to Startle you. The game doesn't need that when its scares come from the atmosphere, and your friends screaming at something that appeared. So I suppose it does have jump scares if your friends scream cause they hear something whisper in their ear. :P

How are there no jump-scares in this game? I've definitely had the ghost randomly be directly behind me without warning to turn and see the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ standing there very close then vanish.

I think they meant in the van.

Definitely jump scares in the house with appearances, noises, sudden object interaction, and doors opening or closing.

The best way to deceive someone is to dress up a falsehood in a cape of half truths and helpful hints, you know. :)

Anyways, there's no problem with being in the van, in fact one piece of evidence requires someone to be in the van, and some of the equipment requires someone to be in the van to monitor it. Why give the player that equipment if the players are not supposed to use it?

The game already gives the player reasons to come out of the van:
Set up equipment.
Help other players by bringing in equipment they might need.
When the breaker is off, ghosts CAN turn off video cameras that players have placed, if they come into sight of them. It's not guaranteed, but it can happen.
You can't collect any evidence except for ghost orbs from inside the van, nor can you take pictures of evidence, move equipment, or actually hear what the sound sensors are detecting.

So while you can get an idea for where things are happening inside the house and help direct people from the van, and it's a good place to have someone, it makes sense that eventually this person will have to leave the van for some reason to risk their safety.

if you are going to hide in the van dont bother playing.. i hate people who do nothing but hang out looking at the monitor (ghost orbs can be spotted very quickly)

I like having a person in the van monitoring activity and cameras. Also their sanity doesnt take a big hit so they can swap out with someone if need be.
Gweenie Oct 7, 2020 @ 3:47pm
You are 100% safe in the van and outside the house but as a few other said keep your distance from windows, doors and walls of the house when outside while a hunt is active the ghost can clip slightly and get you
