I have around 160 hours and I DO NOT WANT jumpscares. The game is scary enough.
AGREED!
The game is fine with enough jumpscares.
Phasmophobia is a different breed of spooky game.
It's not like Outlast where there are jumpscares.
Me personally don't even equate the game to Ghostbusters.
Phasmophobia is a "Paranormal Investigation" and then GTFO.
I like the fact this is very much like a real investigation. That's the appeal for me. I also hate being scared and the sound frequency already gets to my anxiety levels. Every couple of games something ends up happening and gets me to scream like a little girl before breaking out in laughter. Everyone has their own level for how scared they can enjoy. For me that level is next to zero.
So I take it you are quite satisfied with how the game is right now in terms of scares. Well sadly I am not satisfied in the slightest. This game isn't scary for me at all. And it's been like this for a long time. I just keep playing it because I also love the idea of investigating what ghost type haunts the location but seeing the ghost and ghost interacting with stuff don't even make me flinch. There needs to be something more in the game to make people with stronger nerves afraid of the ghost.
No, if anything they should happen without any indicators. There is a special manifest event currently in the game which looks like this: you are in the ghost room and the suddenly all doors slam shut and the ghost appears and loudly blows into your ear. The moment the door slams shut I am ready for everything and am not even slightly afraid. The best way to make the ghost scary would be to replace the current manifests with ghost appearing 2-3 meters in front of you for just a second before disappearing (maybe also add a scary sound to this?) and make this without any announcements of it happening like doors slamming shut. The most scary things to the human brain are things that happen without any warnings and are very fast. Because right now what we have is: Oh, a door just slammed shut, I better get ready for seeing the ghost. Oh, the ghost appeared and it's walking around and I know that it can't hurt me, nice.
Which is like every other game in this genre. I love the fact this game is different because it gives people like me something we can play. I also know I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Hell I was just in the asylum screaming my head off because I thought I was safe during a hunt (I was in a completely different area on my way to the ghost room) and ended up dying. Scared the hell out of me. We don't need jumpscares.
