Question about "alone" vs. "everyone" ghosts
So there's one main group that I play with, but occasionally play with another, and that's caused me to question some things. One of the big ones is the way we treat the information at the start about whether the ghost prefers people who are alone, or are okay with everyone.

So in my main group, we only consider that that affects whether it will talk in the spirit box, and maybe whether it'll write in a ghost writing book (I'm not even sure about that last one). But the other group declares that no, the ghost just won't want to interact with people (manifest, cause ghost events, etc.) with multiple people in the room if it likes people to be alone, and someone needs to stand in the room alone to get those. Dunno if they think there's NO chance, or just less chance, or if it prevents hunting as well to group up in that case or what. Like I said, haven't played with them much.

(And by the way, I know that the rules are different for Shades and Oni, just to get that out there.)

So does anyone have a bit more concrete info on this? Just how much/what exactly does the "likes people who are alone" or "responds to everyone" stuff affect?

I believe it only applies 100% to spirit box evidence and not to anything else. That's why the board specifies "will only respond to people who are alone"

This is all the info I have on it:

A ghost's preference is mainly for manifesting (so you can take a picture of them without being in a hunt) and responding to various interactions (writing, spirit box, ouija boards, even lights) as well as likelihood to hunt. However, any ghost can still operate outside of the listed preferences. IE, a ghost that prefers to be alone may still hunt/interact even if people are around, just with a very decreased likelihood.

Unless it's a glitch or bug, I have had ghosts that prefer to be alone respond with people relatively close by. I've also noticed that, even though ghosts don't see doors, they seem to know if it's closed or open and a closed door seems to make a ghost more responsive. Though that could be an AI personality trait less than an intended ghost effect, as it doesn't work all the time.

What's very important to note, however, is that a ghost is also more likely to hunt with its preferred amount of people as well. Some ghosts will attack whoever is closest rather than target one person. Keep that in mind especially on higher difficulties.

Alone:
- Will talk fairly less in a room full of people(or will not talk at all)
- Will show almost no activity. It will occasionally touch some doors, or stomp, maybe push an object or two, but will never show itself, if there are more than 1 player around. It will NEVER show itself for a photo session.
- If it is a Shade, it will also never hunt(but only if all the players are in the ghost's room. It might still attack, if there is no one in its room).

Everyone:
- Will talk, fling objects, touch doors and show itself.

Light being on might reduce ghost's activity, so, if you want more activity - turn off the light(the room's light source. Not your flashlights).
