Left click the keypad with your mouse and it will open it. " aim at the keypad and left click with your mouse"
Hold left click on a door/ closet door/ drawer and move your mouse while your move forwards or backwards to open doors.
Left click on light switches to turn them on. Left clicking is just an interaction.
Don't see how it needs to be explained.... it's practically always like this on every game.
*With the video camera, there really isn't a good explanation on how to tell if there's a ghost orb. First, do you have to have the camera on with the lights on or do you have to turn the lights off and enable night vision mode on the monitor? Or do you leave the lights on and just look for something glowing?
The tutorial does leave much to be desired, and I would have preferred if it was clearly "we know the spirit is in this room, use your tools in this room" as a super basic guide. Or a walk through on how to use each of the tools at your disposal.
But above all, nobody should spend 20 minutes thinking there's a code to get out of the first room. Seriously... the assumption that something is intuitive is really naive. When I played Edith Finch it took me pounding my keyboard in frustration until I finally found out that this wasn't a click and move adventure, it was a Use the WSAD keys to move type adventure. Yeah, I'm an idiot, but when you start telling people that you gave up on a game or ask for a refund because your idiot self is staring at the controls and not realizing that Left Click interactions exist... does is seem to hard to put "INTERACT WITH NON TOOL OBJECT: LEFT CLICK" into the Control screen?
That wasn't my issue. I found the house key, the car key, and whatever key is sitting on the crendenza in the kitchen. I do have an issue that the only place you can see them is in the journal. I noticed the only indication you have for a missing key is just that the tiny cursor turns into a tiny lock, so yeah, I'm not a big fan of the interface I guess.
edit: I need an "I'm over 50" option that makes those icons a lot bigger.
As for the tutorial itself, honestly it's not terrible in my opinion. The fact that it's an actual ghost and only 3 of the tools will actually work is a little annoying since you won't get to see what a positive reading looks like unless you play multiple times, but overall its not terrible. I think you can see with and without night vision, its just easier with night vision and lights off. Basically looks like someones waving a pen light around trying to mess with their cat. Also it tells you what room it's in on the truck's whiteboard, so it legit is "we know the spirit is in this room, use your tools in this room" as you put it.
Yeah, I went in, and the first thing I did was review the controls so I'd know how the game worked. And I thought Left Click wasn't used for anything. Plus, the exit was a keypad, not a giant button that said "lower lift gate."
Use (left click) the TV remote in the living room to get detailed instructions on how to use every item.
Yeah, I didn't do that. When I started the game, I went to the options and looked at the controls.
So to use the remote, I picked up the item. I used Q and E if it didn't appear as the top item, and then used the Right Click button to click through. That seemed to match the controls when I went to the control menu. I saw a tutorial video on Youtube and saw that he wasn't picking it up, which really confused me. When I tried to use Right Click and F on it, nothing seemed to happen.
What bugs me is that primary use and use (so left mouseclick is the same), so when i try to turn a lightswitch on, it turn the tool in my hand either on or off. I find this really stupid, so not sure what would be a good keybinding solution for this. I just changed the local and Global push to talk to my MMB and to my 4th mouse button. I've changed nothing else
