It is possible to mimic voice lines from players. The game just needs to record some random stuff the players say and play it back to someone who is separated from his team. This would add some nice tension.
Yes, people discovered some code in the game that allows ghosts to take the form of a player. But the code is not active at the moment, but will most likely be fully implemented at some point.
(i do not think they turned on the code, so it may have been ACTIVE at one point)
(i think i was looking up the decomplied code for the game to have a idea of how it works)
but the content was talking about physical mimics. problem is it was terrible.
unless you were far away and merely caught a glimpse, you'd not fall for it.
did not animate, clearly floated.
as for the voice, i agree, simply monitor for words from each player of a "fairly" generic list.
words like "it's here", "hunting". quick easy effective ones in other words.
pick one or two of them per player max...
and have the ghost play them erratically. better yet, record them as they played. so you have MIC, or walkie talkie variants, harder to figure and catch that way.
imagine the ghost repeating "lounge" on a bigger house? while actually being in the garage or something. (no extra code for logic, merely coincidence)
(or imagine it locking onto a PHRASE of interest, like "kill player", this ghost just running around the house chanting "kill player" sounds like a terrifyingly hilarious situation honestly. and you'd be forced to wonder if it's messing with you, or it has a lock on that player particularly...)
It can really copy a players appearance and sometimes even follows the team while draining the sanity in the meantime.
It does not often do this but it can be seen using this ability in many streams on YouTube. BurkeBlack for example has recorded that.
Ok, I haven't seen that in my 150 hours. But I found a video that confirms it at 0:30:30.
