To get a response the room lights need to be off, you need to be in the same room as the Ghost or near it, depending on what it says on the truck whiteboard you might need to be alone in the room.
Hope this helps.
Hi Kinetic! LOVE your game. I had a followup question on your response to AvengedSevenSam. What qualifies as "alone", we're confused. We were playing with 4, and weren't sure if it means only one person can be in the house, or is it per room? For example, if I'm in a bedroom alone, and a friend is just outside of the door, but completely past the threshold of the door, am I considered to be alone in the room for the "alone" condition/ ghosts?
In my experience, you just need to be in the room alone and your friends can be nearby outside. Close the door and have them all stand outside a few feet away from the door. I've gotten responses doing it that way.
That's just coincidence that it happened when you were using the spirit box. That sort of the thing can happen without the spirit box as well. You'll actually hear them speaking on the spirit box if it's working.
thats not a response on the spirit box though. thats just the ghost appearing due to high location EMF. A common response I get on the spirit box is when I ask "how old are you" it will clearly say "FOUR". or if I ask "where are you" it has said "BEHIND"
The spirit box will only work on ghosts that have that specific piece of evidence, which is only a few of the ghosts. You can definitely go many games without a ghost answering it! That being said, here's some tips to make sure it works when it should:
-The spirit box only works in the dark. (I like to close the door and turn the lights off, just to be safe!)
-The ghost will only talk to you if you're in the ghost's room and the ghost is around. You might have to try it a few times. Each ghost can travel, but will have a specific room that it's haunting. This will be the primary room you find evidence in for the ghost type.
-If the whiteboard in the van says the ghost prefers people to be alone, you have to be completely alone in the room, while meeting the above criteria.
-Ask questions like "Where are you?" "How old are you" and "Do you want to hurt us?". These are a few phrases the ghost will respond to, among others. Just saying "are you here" and "talk to me" don't turn out answers lots of the time.
I hope this helps!!
Just to clarify, you ONLY have to be alone in the room if the whiteboard in the van specifically says "only responds to people who are alone". If it states "Everyone", you do not need to be alone. This was confirmed by the developer.
Not for the Spirit Box to work. Had a game last night in Asylum. Ghost responds to everyone but Ghost Box wasn't working until everyone left the room except for me. Spirit Box is the only thing that someone needs to be alone.
This is just coincidence. You do NOT have to be alone if the board says everyone. The ghost will not always respond on the first time, or may not be close enough to you to respond in the room. I guarantee you that if it says everyone, you don't need to be alone. Again, the game developer confirmed this (in this thread above, as well as other threads), and I've experienced it many times personally, and seen it on streams. The ghost travels, so if the ghost isn't there at that moment, or further away from you, it may not respond even if all conditions are met.
