Ghost Book Writing?
I have been in many lobbies with many people saying many things... how does the ghost book work... Do you have to leave the room? Can you be looking at the book when it writes? Can the lights be off and turned back on and see the book has writing? Can you get the ghost to explicitly write in the book or just does it happen randomly/during a hunt/during an event? I understand only some ghosts write in the book but sometimes I have stayed after getting two pieces of evidence and the ghost doesn't ever write so we assume its another type and boom the game says it was the ghost that does write...

Also confirmed that the ghost can write in the book without you holding it in hand or dropping it. Sometimes you pull your book out and it just has writing. But placing it in the ghosts area works best.

Then it's just a waiting game, do other evidences while you wait.

I've seen it take 30+ minutes to write in the book.

Yeah I'm running into this issue of trying to understand if I'm doing something wrong, or they don't want to write. Sometimes I just have to do process of elimination till only Ghost Writing is left.

I didn't mark whether we had the lights on but twice today we had ghost writing appear as it made contact with the floor when we placed it. Others took awhile for it to appear. So definitely looking at it, placement in the ghost room within the first 5 mins, and having others around didn't deter Ghost writing from appearing.

as with most things, this game is in early acess, so some evidence gets hard to get from time to time (like fingerprints in a open room with no doors or lights to touch, or the rumored ghost orb bug). I feel like the smaller the room, the better chance you have of getting ghost writing if thats evidence. No you dont have to leave the room, but sometimes the ghost might be to "shy" (if theres multiple people sometimes). Try asking the ghost "can you write in this book", or move it to a better hotspot. maybe just have two books placed on both sides of a room if yo know for a fact that room is THE room. I have seen YT videos of instant ghost writing, and if you really dont want to enter the house anymore, proc the camera on elevated space and have the book visable on it

In my experience (two sessions with friends) when we drop the book in the suspected room, all leave, then come back to it there will be a successful indication if it's a writing ghost or not. Typically, I take the book in with me first thing so I can leave it in there as long as possible. Check it periodically while you are investigating other things.

The ghost can actually write in the book while you're holding it. It really depends on the type of ghost and if it's shy or not.

I literally took the book out in my hand one time and stepped into a room and it wrote inside it. Other times I had to leave it for a few minutes

There's a video clip of someone playing with a lighter and singing and making annoying noises, the ghost got pissed off and grabbed the lighter and tossed it on the floor.

No the player didn't push a button and dropped it, it LITERALLY looked like someone pinched the top part of the lighter and yanked it out of your hand, then 'slammed' it onto the ground after pulling it into midair a bit.

Book is mostly reliable, place it in the room, go away, come back, see writing.

But on professional there is this tendency for one of the evidences to not show up easily.

Yeah the ghosts have taken things from my or my friend's hands and thrown them before

This happens on all difficulties. I was in an amateur level, and we could not get the ghost to give us the last piece of evidence despite all of us being at 30% sanity and calling its name.

I've had times where I put a book down and there's writing in it a few seconds later as I'm looking at it while talking to someone over the radio, and other times where the book has been sitting in a room a long time with nothing on it, then all of a sudden there's writing on it.

I'm certain it depends on the level of activity in the area, if you can rile it up some, you might get it to write in the book -- so long as it is the ghost that writes in books.
