Angering the Ghost?
Been playing the game for a while now, and I know saying the ghosts name will anger it, but how exactly does it work? My questions I have is, do you need to be in the room the ghost is in to anger him? Secondly, can angering him cause him to enter hunt mode or is that only effected by sanity?

It's poorly documented or explained.

My current theory, based on several public games, is that this seems to be something that rarely works because the ghost has to rest between periods of activity and with people calling the ghost various names trying to get activity, all it does is prompt hunting sooner and make people spend a boatload of time doing nothing but trying to make the ghost hunt. The result however is that the ghost starts hunting while everyone is above 60% sanity, so actual haunt events (the stuff that can be actually scary) never happen.
Calling out the ghost's name is supposed to trigger events if the ghost hasn't been active at all, and possible cause it to hunt you. In the following clip, I was waiting with a camera for a very inactive ghost, while a friend who was streaming was trying repeatedly to anger it. Eventually it worked.

In this case, that is a good thing. The dev shouldn't give away the nitty gritty on mechanics in a game like this. "Saying the name angers the ghost" is all the explanation we should get

While I partially agree, the number of games where people are just stomping around the house calling out the name with every sentence then get angry when the ghost doesn't immediately murder them, suggests a fundamental misunderstanding of how anything works. It breaks immersion since you can't hear any of the thudding, footsteps, or environment between all the repeat name calling and insults and never amounts to anything.

The best hunts I've been on have been ones where the name has never really used since there was a more progressive ramp-up of activity instead of these brief 0-10 spikes with nothing happening in the environment and no flashlight blinking.

Oh yeah I mean the tutorial needs to be better, but it can explain "mechanics" without "explaining" the mechanics

I think in general this game is made for people who are more patient, which is not the average consumer. A lot of our ghost hunts come down to us spending our early time setting up, identifying if possible where the ghost might be, and then once our time runs out, using our sensing equipment to narrow down our guesses. Future trips into the house are strategic and precise. We have a task, and a plan. Get in, do it, and get out.

It's not glorious, but we don't die a whole lot, that one clip not withstanding. That was just one really shy ghost, and I managed to get a picture of it killing my friend. Now that was glorious :D

He still haunts me and my other friend about that sweet bonus.

tbh i dont play MM, just get some friends to get it, or buy it for them while its cheap and then boom you dont have to worry about other people ruining your game because simply there will ALWAYS be people like that whether they don't know better or are trolling, they just will exist

I think you mean you don't play PUBLIC MP. Multiplayer with your friends is still multiplayer.

Just saying.

Coop is still cooperation even if you don't know the players you're playing with.

You are talking about Private Multiplayer. This game doesn't have versus, so all games are coop, and if you have more than one person it's multiplayer.
