Microphone Volume Significantly Decreases In-Game
When I use in-game voice chat, my microphone decreases to the point where no one can hear me. If I talk on Discord and through the in-game chat at the same time, the microphone volume is basically silent. This is the only game where I have this issue. Is anyone else experiencing something similar, or are there any fixes?

Having the same problem. My partner's microphone will be fine for a round or 2, then suddenly drop down to where we can hardly hear him. He has to quit the game and restart then it works fine again for a while then it'll happen again. Really frustrating!
Did you disable "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" in your microphone settings? Also make sure that your Levels setting is at 100.

I have this same issue as well where my friends can barely hear me. The game picks up my input but my friends say theyre receiving it very quietly, in order for them to hear me is when im literally in their body screaming into my mic. Also the recognition for spirit box and name calling is working just fine. Just quiet for other players

This is where we're at with my SO. Audio Test says she's fine and voice recognition seems to be working, but in-game she's quiet as a mouse to an extent she found so frustrating that she quit after two rounds. Would love a solution to this, I'll look into the master volume thing but I have serious doubts. Her mic is on her webcam, if that matters, but the thing can hear you across the house normally so I don't think it's the hardware itself having a problem.
That was my problem, I got a new webcam for school and so when I got the webcam up, it automatically switched my webcam mic as the default on the computer, switch back to the normal microphone being used in the game input settings and switch back the regular microphone as default in control panel. Ever since my input audio is working great.

If the webcam mic is what she uses it may not work.. That is my experience. If she has another mic she can use like a headset mic or just a regular mic that she can try out that might work.

SOLUTION: Make sure your microphone you want to use for in game is set in the in game settings. Then go outside of the game and go to control panel, go to sound settings in control panel, then set that microphone as default microphone. I had the problem being asked and ever since I did this solution my mic has been working wonderful.

It's not a guaranteed fix. My mic was already set to default, and I'm still having the problem. I know my mic works because my friends can hear me clearly in Discord.
Yeah, the webcam is her only mic and the only device the game even lists as an option, so I really doubt it's a matter of picking up the wrong audio source.
After many hours of trying many different suggestions, I finally got my super quiet mic to work good enough that people and game could finally hear me. First i'd suggest setting your mic up in windows, but put the mic gain to maximum and use the noise supression option. If that doesn't work, then update to windows version 2004, after you do this update your windows and in particular install the optional windows update, especially if there are drivers for your specific motherboard. NOTE: this is not perfect but it did at least raise my mic volume up enough to be useable.
I have issues with Desktop mic, Discord im loud, other programs out of game im loud.
In game I repeatedly get people saying "turn up your mic" but it is already set to 100% in windows. They removed in game senstivity as it "breaks push to talk" mode which personally I think they should remove push to talk mode instead as talking and trying to to make sounds during hunts is a big game mechanic.

I have not tested it in VR since update though.

You need to set your "Master Volume" in the sound settings to 100. For some reason, this controls both your microphone & speaker levels. I suggest using the Windows Mixer to reduce the volume of the game.

It appears that reducing the "Master Volume" below 100 will reduce the volume of your microphone in the Windows settings, which is why it affects other apps.

You may be a godsend, I had my game at like 15 because I thought it was too loud. I'll definitely try it out.
I didn't read the comments but there's an option that stops ur pc from reducing your mic volume.

1. Right click the speaker icon on lower right of your computer. (Near date / time)
2. Select "Recording Devices" from the pop-up options.
3. The "Sound" control pop-up window will display on the "Recording" tab.
4. Select the "Communications" tab.
5. For the question: "When Windows detects communications activity:", answer with: "Do nothing".
6. Select "Apply"

Either that or it has to do something with the exclusive mode
try it lol, if I understand you correctly then it should be identical to my problem in past years.
Mic volume would change on it's own but the thingy above helped me solve it

YOU ARE AWESOME! Thank you!
Steam app audio settings. Start a chat with a friend. Bottom right of chat for settings wheel. Change mic and headphone volume all the way up. If you do the test you'll get feedback bad but in game you won't.
Game runs off of steam audio settings! Not windows settings
My mic has been all over the place. Each time I start a round it's like spinning the wheel of fortune. Sometimes I'm deafeningly loud, sometimes i'm basically silent, but luckily most of the time it's relatively normal. Although, I do get a strange static for the first few seconds I use voice chat so I have to hold it a few seconds before and after speaking to be fully understood even when my volume is fine. In the lobby, always fine though.
Is there a solution to this issue yet? I see a couple suggestions but no one's said for sure they work. On top of that, I have tried and they aren't working for me. My volume takes a massive dip once I enter a session, but is fine in the lobby. Mic is set to default everywhere. Autodetermine sensitivity is turned off in Steam. The only one I haven't checked yet is the one in windows to disallow a device to control a mic, because there must've been an update because that setting is not in the same spot the person suggested. I'd have to google it.
