Microphone Volume Significantly Decreases In-Game
When I use in-game voice chat, my microphone decreases to the point where no one can hear me. If I talk on Discord and through the in-game chat at the same time, the microphone volume is basically silent. This is the only game where I have this issue. Is anyone else experiencing something similar, or are there any fixes?

Both. When I'm in pre-game, my friends are saying that my microphone becomes almost silent when I try to communicate.

thats odd, i know there is an issue with the in game chat stuff at the moment but it usually it working or not, this is different. have you tried leaving discord closed while in the map?
Theres volume in-game for your mic and other people can turn up your volume.

My friends set my volume to 100% while ingame but it's still so quiet that they can't understand me

I've closed discord on task manager and it stays relatively loud for a few minutes, but when I get ingame it drops silent again.

Bump on this. I bought a new headset and the issue still happens when I speak in-game after about thirty seconds. If I hold the mic to my mouth then it's audible, but the volume still significantly decreases.

You need to set your "Master Volume" in the sound settings to 100. For some reason, this controls both your microphone & speaker levels. I suggest using the Windows Mixer to reduce the volume of the game.

It appears that reducing the "Master Volume" below 100 will reduce the volume of your microphone in the Windows settings, which is why it affects other apps.

I am having a similar issue regardless of in-game master volume level being at 100 and friends having my voice level at 100 during co-op. Windows mic volume is 100 and boost is 100. My mic volume is decent in other applications outside of playing the game, and I do not have other applications open while playing the game, so the only thing using my mic at the time of this issue is the in-game voice - I am just too quiet for others to fully understand me, they can hear me but its like having my mic on level 10-20 instead of 100.

I have this issue as well super annoying I have to close steam or restart my computer to fix it and it will just happen randomly while in game when I change lobby.

My friend and I are having issues hearing each other too.

My friend is having the same issue, but the opposite:
When he first opens phasmo, in the lobby he sounds normal.
When he gets in game, after speaking for maybe 5 seconds his in game mic volume goes up massively (10x or so).
If he talks in discord during this time, he's also extremely loud.
If the game is closed, discord volume goes back to normal. If the game is reopened, it's back to normal until a game is entered, which starts it all over again.

Other things he's noted: If he turns down his windows mic level, nothing changes. He could be at 1/100 and it would still be just as loud in game or in discord. Clearly the level is being overridden to some rediculous value. Weirdest issue i've ever seen... especially cause it just affects him.

Having this issue as well, microphone works perfectly fine for everything except Phasmophobia. I've checked all my window settings for my microphone and set it to max input but I still sound incredibly soft to other players. So far I've verified game files, changed my mic input through steam overlay, closed discord before opening Phasmophobia, not run steam as admin and cortana has been set up correctly.

Voice recognition is fine it's just that the game is barely picking up my voice so voice recognition is having a hard time working.

I had this same issue playing with a friend. I noticed that in the App volume and device preferences page of Windows Settings, the only app that changes volume is the Speech Runtime Executable (which I think might be what they use to parse your speech to recognize it?). While focused on the game (in an actual match, not lobby), the speech runtime executable was set to 55, but when unfocusing from the game, it went back up to 100 and I was considerably louder on discord. I am not sure how to edit this in any way while the game is running though.

Also the recognition for spirit box and name calling is working just fine. Just quiet for other players

This is where we're at with my SO. Audio Test says she's fine and voice recognition seems to be working, but in-game she's quiet as a mouse to an extent she found so frustrating that she quit after two rounds. Would love a solution to this, I'll look into the master volume thing but I have serious doubts. Her mic is on her webcam, if that matters, but the thing can hear you across the house normally so I don't think it's the hardware itself having a problem.
