How to stop Steam VR from launching on startup?

When I start the game, Steam VR launches and wants to play the game in VR. Is there a way to stop it from doing this so I can play out of VR?

hit the launch button from your library, and it gives you the option to launch in either desktop or vr.

Unplug and shut down your vr software

that doesn't really answer OP question
is there a flag, like a launch option, that controls it?
it's inconvenient to go into library every time
sounds lazy but when you play game a lot, that's always 8 clicks instead of 3

ok you do not have to unplug your VR if you have got a oculus rift s you can disable by doing this Browse to Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics then look for a program called OculusDebugTool.exe click on that the program will load then at the top left you will see File, Tools, Service, Help click on Service then click on Stop Oculus Service then run the game and it wont load in vr mode. Hope this helps

Try looking for an option in Big Picture mode that says something about starting Steam VR with Phasmophobia.

I found this solution on reddit:
right click the game > properties > set launch options > add "-nohmd" to the command line.

i have tried all of these but just launches in vr mode even when i select the nonvr play option im lost lol

What type of headset do you use? I use a hp reverb G2 and for it to launch normally I have to shut off my headset with the power button on the cable block

if u have amd, check if there Relive VR is on in its properties. its the reason its starts steam vr
