Pokemon Snap: Unity Assets Edition
Idk how this game got so popular. I went into this with people telling me it's "sooo terrifying", but you just walk into a house, say a dudes/chicks name, snap a picture of them, detect some fingerprints or some other generic bs, and then go back to the lobby to repeat the same thing in 1 of 3 locations.

Half the time spent in the game is walking around saying "William Davis, show yourself." over and over.
Most of the stuff you can find, pick up, or interact with do nothing at all, outside of doing whatever they're programmed to do as a default asset.

EDIT: Let's be real. The game got viral hype from streamers and youtubers who pumped it up as this "super spoopy ghost game" and people went nuts. Then word of mouth spread the hype around. The game isn't everything these sources stated it was and now everyone here is trying to cope by defending this bare bones game.

It's called a forum. It's a place where people go to share their thoughts, experiences, and ideas about a specific topic. What you mad that I didn't come here and stroke my ♥♥♥♥ all over the game? Gtfo.

Most MMO's are go this place kill this number of this thing.

Most RPGS are go to this place hear this story and grind.

Most fps are go around and shoot some stuff.

Boiling a game down to go place do thing can be done with any game really. The game is made by a single person and give a co-op ghost hunting experience that isn't available anywhere else. You more then free not to like the game or the assets, but breaking it down to "go here, do thing" isn't profound or good criticism or even really interesting. Maybe you should look at what the game does differently that made it popular.

For instance, team horror in its self is pretty dead market not many games can have a group and make them scared together. The games close to this are mainly 1v4 and the ghost just kills the players, they aren't really scary more just 1v4 hunt games that get boring fast.

Its an experience, your alowd to not like it, people experience things differently, but to act like this is some rip off game like the five billion dota or fortnight clones is strange. Its different and in away people really enjoy, your question seems meaningless like your just trying to pick a fight.

Those games have story, progression, depth, a viable rewards system. Phasmowhatever has none of that. It's literally you just walking into a room, say a dudes name, snap a pic or take a temperature, and then leave.
There's nothing outside of that, there's nothing to "boil down" because that's the game. I played it with friends. It's a yawn fest. Scary ♥♥♥♥ doesn't even happen. The ghosts just kinda shows up and you're like "Oh! There it is!" and you do whatever little piddly thing you're tasked to do and then leave. Then go back and do the exact same ♥♥♥♥ at 1 of 3 locations. All of the ghost "types" act the same.

There's literally nothing to be had here aside from people faking being scared and ♥♥♥♥. It's all youtube/twitch hype.

Edit: and god forbid if you manage to somehow die, you float around in some god awfully loud ass blue space and literally can't do anything but exist in the lobby and you get nothing from all that time. Even if you do succeed, you get something like 50 bucks and some meaningless xp to unlock stuff to buy that you don't even need.

Phasmophobia has levels, items and maps to unlock. Most games do not need story to be interesting as you playing it is the story, what you experience is the story of the experience.

The ghost types act don't really act alike, in fact My regular group can almost tell different ghost types without evidence just on different actions.

if league of legends and Dota 2 can be big games with only one map then I don't see why this game with multiple maps and different ai in each map isn't allowed to be fun and popular. Yet again your arguments are weak and its more like your trying to pick a fight then actual criticism.

I mean fine, if you don't like horror games thats cool, you got them balls of steel and nothing scares you at all. Good work.

No one playing this game is going to care that is doesn't scare you or your friends and as the second post in a row has shown your only here to cry and try to pick a fight I too well leave you to it. Your on this games forums and your talking to this games players. if you don't like it fine, but your reasoning it wrong and looks foolish.

Sorry your favorite streamer started playing this instead of whatever else, its just the hype the game is bad, all the people playing it are just dumb and your right.

Cool story bro, tell it again.

I know why its popular, and I've seen how it can be so popular from a few Youtube videos.

I've played a few horror worlds in VRchat (in VR) obtaining raw experiences from it. When done right it can be the best.. You have to be honest (not stiff as a bone) to actually enjoy this game, something I've seen flexing when they shouldn't be. You have to let loose and actually enjoy the game instead of being this odd stick in the mud. Granted, people experience things differently.

It may indeed be somewhat repetitive, though it has shown it will change things where you can't use the same formula over and over again. New maps, new updates.......

You're entitled to your opinion, its been noted. I however have to disagree.

obvious troll is obvious, game is early access and is being actively developed daily. I'm sorry that you are so bored that it makes you angry. Maybe help report bugs and promote cool ideas to add to the game instead of being instagative af? it's immature man.:steamsalty:

One thing I'd like to add to this discussion is that different people deal with immersion and fear in different ways. If you were unable to become immersed in the game then so be it. I consider myself to be a pretty middle of the road guy when it comes to dealing with horror of any type, so I can become comfortable to a certain degree with doing things like going into a house alone and antagonizing an enemy npc that can one shot me at any moment, etc etc, however I played with a person who doesn't deal well with that sort of thing and they were 100% not okay with going in alone, etc etc. People process things differently, if you don't get affected by horror or cant get immersed then just don't play the game. Your argument that it's all youtube and twitch hype sounds more like you're just sour that several people are enjoying an experience that you don't care for, and I personally can attest that it isn't all youtube or twitch hype, I found the game on my own because I was looking for VR horror games and I asked some of my mates if they wanted to play, and we've been having a blast together. And as to why it got so popular, my belief is that co-op horror is rare, as is VR horror, and co-op VR horror is almost unheard of. It's a solid game at its core and it's probably one of only a handful of its genre that is even available on the platform. It's not like I don't have my gripes with the gameplay or the visuals, however the game also is still in early access, and as a result I am excited to continue playing with my mates and see how the game grows and develops.

Ding! Ding! Ding!~
This is why horror worlds/maps in VRchat are popular, more so when its co-op. We needed a game outside of VRchat to expand on things. Once you hop out of a world everything is gone, though here it all retains longterm.

Find another randomly-generated ghost hunting game that can be played in co-op, different types of ghosts, methods of dealing with and identifying the ghosts, equipment.

It's not the same every time, it's always something new.

Nobody cares about your opinion that's the point. Keep crying about the game you want, but it's not going to stop people from enjoying the game. You're shocked that people who enjoy the game go onto the forums and disagree with you, who's the real idiot in this situation?

Why do I think that Stalking Reaptor is playing this game in a brightly lit room, with music blaring, and partially watching TV?!?

It may not be your kind of game... but try it at night, in a dark room, by yourself. Not everybody thought that "The Haunting" was a special kind of haunted house movie, but Phasmaphobia (like the Haunting) plays on your senses and imagination. It's not scary because you see the monster... it's scary because YOU DON'T see the monster and you hear that noise around the corner and OH MY GOD ALL THE LIGHTS WENT OUT!

For those who give this game a chance... you're in for a special, special ride. :steammocking:

I've played for almost 5 hours. Seen most of the ghost types. They all do the same ♥♥♥♥. They are all the same Unity assets and you do the same generic ♥♥♥♥ for each mission.
