How to change combat to manual mode?

So, im trying this game "on my friends account" since 2 hours of trying is too short for a JRPG. so far kinda have mixed feelings with the combat system, but i heard that manual mode is more fluid. Does the manual mode unlocked after progressing through story???
i just met with Estelle and get out from the castle, (maybe im just dumb) but i still cant find the manual option.

you can change mod in arts menu ( top right ) or in combat by pressing select. Semi-auto is much more noob friendly imo and is pretty good overall. Manual doesnt give you any advantage or anything. Basically all that semi-auto does is aim into selected target.
