ITS HARD TO BLOCK.
Is it supposed to be this much of a pain blocking at the right moment ? I feel like im so bad at it... its not reliable cause its not quick enough.

However, keep in mind that increasing agility will increase the speed of blocking, meaning that further in the game you'll be able to block much faster. it's not that noticeable, but you can definitely feel it if you start a new game.

I would have to watch a clip of your gameplay to understand where the problem is.
3 Attacks -> Arte -> Block

No timing involved.

just hold down the block button after combo/attacking. Also you can back-step with block button+backwards if you have the skill

Yes this is what im doing but right after the arte you got a delay like half a sec where its just doesnt react. Am i the only one with that feeling ? Also thats mostly why im playing at easy cause i get literally destoyed by any boss on normal.

eh it is more complicated than that. against the first boss on hard mode this will get you killed and on normal it will get you hit. azure edge has garbage recovery. the only real solution is to either use forward attack down attack forward attack azure edge which leaves the enemy far enough away to block in time or you have to mess with manuel cancels that I have no idea how they work and honestly didnt know they existed until I read about it in a topic earlier.

I think i fail to block cause it doesnt let me block before the end of the animation. It would be way easier if it could only cancel the last dmg done so i could block in the appropriate moment. Anyway yeah its a game design i believe.

Yes, especially at the start. You get more defensive flexibility as your characters develop.

OP — I think you have a bug. I have it too. Look at this vid (~ at 24:50 timestamp): https://youtu.be/REvf3Q0S08A?t=1493. This guy is blocking right after attack, instantaneously. I cannot block until about a second pass. So we have loud as hell skits, frame skips, and now glitched block timing on that port. Beautiful :(

EDIT: I was wrong. Almost a second delay before blocking becomes possible is normal, buuut there is a way to cancel out animations, and be able to block sooner, which is what author of that vid uses. This technique is called a free run cancel, and first post in this thread[gamefaqs.gamespot.com] explains how to do it.

There's skills that you can get later on to help you with cancelling attacks/spells to move quickly. Also remember you can cancel animation with free run.

you have to manually cancel to have control over battle. In one on one fights like against zagi you still can do well with semi-auto attacking him with long reach combo ( basic attack + direction have different effects ) like forward attack + down attack + forward pushes him away so you have time.

Without manual cancel youll never perform good in early game, hard is almost unplayable without it.

Keep in mind that the manual cancel will only work while in manual control mode, hence the name.

Spell cancelling is also a thing, and typically lets you attack more quickly, but not everyone has the magics.

yuri has artes that can be canceled after certain amount of usage. Azure wolf strike can be canceled after projectile part after 300, dragon spin can be canceled after something.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
